Not sure what made me want to make a yellow pair of jeans. Pinterest possibly, Instagram probably, harmoniously combined with a deep affection for this bright but not too bright Mirren Honey Denim. And once the idea had settled, that was it. I promptly did some jeans pattern hunting/research/stalking and settled on the Helene Selvedge Jeans by Anna Allen Clothing. Also a fair endorsement were the 1600+ outstanding makes, shares, feedback and reviews on Instagram. Love (and appreciate!) that! The pattern is for non stretch denim and comes with four style options  – wide (m ..read more

Fabric Feature – Reformed Two Way Stretch

In our early blogging days, we were partial to posting something we called ‘Fabric Feature of the Week’. Not sure why we stopped doing that but it was most likely the (over) commitment to a weekly blog post. Maybe we should consider re-introducing it (should we?) because there’ll always be fabrics we love to share. Here’s one. Two actually. This 89% polyester 11% polyurethane is a two-way stretch woven we call Reformed and it comes in both Black and a dark French Navy. It’s got a gorgeous drape and we’d best describe it as a smooth crepe. Originally purchased from a local designer ..read more

It’s been a few years since I made an ‘occasion’ dress and our staff Christmas dinner provided the perfect opportunity to make a pattern I’ve had my eye on for a while. The pattern is Simplicity s9326 and just when I thought I was done with ruffles, I realise I’m not and quite possibly never will be. After finding this pattern, I felt like I’d seen something similar so after some Pinterest-ing, discovered it was verrrry similar to this Zimmermann dress and this and this & Other Stories one too. The pattern’s fabric recommendations for my version – View B – are ‘silky type ..read more

We’re slowly working on expanding the sizing on a selection of our existing Tessuti patterns and here’s the latest one – the Kate Top. Originally released eight years ago, this sewing pattern continues to deliver everything we want in a woven tank. The pattern includes two options. View A (above) is pull-on with a scoop neck. View B (below) has a higher neckline with a keyhole back. Both styles feature exposed binding on the armholes and neckline. Basic it may be but the Kate Top offers up all the qualities we love in a piece of clothing. It’s effortless, convenient and completely ti ..read more

Introducing our latest pattern, the Jensen Pants! These pants have been on the the pattern to-do list for a long time. Five years in fact, so let’s make that a really long time. And that really is a testament to their timeless style that in all that waiting time, they’re still as contemporary now as they were half a decade ago. The Jensen Pants are a pull-on style featuring a clean, classic silhouette and a tapered slim leg. Deep front patch pockets are anchored into the waist and side seams and the curved openings are finished with a self-bias back-binding that offers both struct ..read more

Here’s a simple skirt we’re calling the Multi Elastic Waist Skirt. Wordy, sure, but also accurate. The design features (optional) pockets and a waistband comprising three rows of elastic fed through three tunnel casings. It was completely inspired by the arrival of this 100% linen View Of Venice. We fell in love with the design and Silva decided to create a simple style to showcase the exceptional print. The resulting skirt was so striking we thought we’d share this easy tutorial with you all. Where appropriate, finish the raw edges with overlocking. If you don’t have an overlocker/ser ..read more

Been seeing some cute robe and short sets around so when this Capri Pink Stripe 100% textured cotton fabric arrived it screamed “MAKE ME INTO A CUTE ROBE AND SHORTS SET!” So that’s exactly what we did. Check out the gorgeous weave… When it came to looking for the right sewing patterns we didn’t need to look that far – our Tessuti Robe and Bailee Shorts delivered exactly what we were looking for. For the robe (and to make it less robe-around-the-home and more robe-by-the-pool-or-beach) we shortened both length and sleeves. For an extra contrast detail and an added pop of colour, w ..read more
