It’s springtime in Montana. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining and your pals are casually lacing up K-Feds in the Big Sky park after enjoying a health missile aka a corn dog at the Hungry Moose Market. What a wonderful time to be alive. Big Sky Resort has built up an extensive park over the last few years. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the Great North, but it should be up there. Under the Swifty lift, you’ll probably find a few members of Entourage—the Bozeman-based crew who churns out heaters like it’s their job. If you have yet to see their Fall 2 ..read more

“Unlikely Duo” Unites Eric Carter and Tom Peiffer Across Ski Disciplines
Freeskier Magazine

The juxtaposition of disciplines fascinates and unites us as skiers and riders, even when it seems as though we are only linked by our passion for being on snow. And the more niche, the more extreme, the more elusive they become.  As the niches have continued to niche, even in our already niche world of snowsports, the draw to understand each other becomes even more powerful, the fascination greater.  Earning my ski legs in the mountains of Colorado after almost 30 years of living in Summit County and in the mountains outside of Boulder, I developed an obsession with understanding ..read more

Skiing Through the 2024 Solar Eclipse at Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire

Images: Courtesy of Cannon Mountain On April 8, 2024, North America witnessed a solar eclipse, the first since 2017 and the last for another two decades. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, casting a shadow onto specific parts around the globe. The areas most affected by this shadow are known as the path of totality. The light fades like a scene right out of a science fiction movie, and in a beautifully slow dance, the moon seems to consume the sun. Day turns to night in an instant that reminds us of our fragile place in the cosmos. Around noon, skiers ri ..read more

Freeskier Magazine
by FREESKIER

GoPro’s Line of the Winter has been in full swing this season. The company hosted a viral contest, putting up $30K in total prize money, $10K given to the winner of each month from January through March. So far, only one skier has taken home the cake, and that’s Adrià Millan Pla. The South American speed demon won both January and February with two lines that had a bit of everything; big turns at high speeds, tight exist chutes in variable conditions and a lofty 360 for good measure. For March, however, the story was different. The latest winner was a familiar face in freeskiing; the professor ..read more

Hedvig Wessel Tears Into Giant Alaskan Lines

Watching Hedvig Wessel take on Alaskan faces that are half the size of Central Park is like watching Picasso paint. Or, it’s like watch Hedvig Wessel. Potato potahto, as they say. In this quick cut courtesy of GoPro, we get to tag along with the 2024 Freeride World Tour Champion as she rockets down open faces, spines and cliffs somewhere in the rugged mountains of Alaska. Her classic style of composed aggressions has become well-known thanks to her years competing on the FWT. However, it’s always enjoyable to watch her rip outside of the start gate. As one of the strongest big mountain and fre ..read more

If you’ve ever need a confidence boost in your skiing, it’s right before you. We all get bummed out when taking a spill on the hill. Even if (hopefully) you walk away physically unscathed, your ego is bound to take a hit. That’s probably for the best, as learning how to fall and get back up is all part of the game. And it’s reassuring to know that it happens to everyone, even the pros. Yes, the talented crew at Matchstick Productions could be some of the greatest skiers on Earth. Yet even these stallions sometimes come up short. Here is the proof, right before our very eyes. Like any of us, th ..read more

Ski mountaineering is no joke. There are hundreds of variables to keep in mind constantly, and one wrong choice can be catastrophic. The simple act of losing a mitten can bring about serious consequences. In conditions such as these, there is only one frame of mind to channel; the Teton Hard B*tch. It’s a saying pioneered by Jackson Hole-based pro skier Madison Rose Ostergren, and it can mean many things. Do your absolute best, push personal limits, take your goal seriously without taking yourself too seriously, and many more. Fellow Jackson Hole pro skier Veronica Paulsen channels all those t ..read more

Josh Daiek Tackles Big Lines and Big Airs in the Sierra Nevada
Freeskier Magazine
by Jordan Grant-Krenz

He could probably be classified as your favorite skier’s favorite skier. Josh Daiek has grown to be known as one of the rowdiest big mountain and freeride skiers out there, and for good reason. The Salomon athlete is an outstanding rider. His line choice is, in a word, intimidating. He doesn’t shy away from high speeds. In fact, he encourages them. Combine that with a taste for big airs and a love for riding hard in no-fall zones, and you’ve got a style that screams “f*ck yeah!” In episode seven of his series titled “One Track Mind,” Daiek heads to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to revisit one of ..read more
