The Story of Rhoda Wise, Servant of God
Prayer to Pen
by Ryan Bilodeau

My wife and I just finished praying a Novena for the Beatification of the Servant of God Rhoda Wise, who looks to be on her path to Sainthood. The Novena was also prayed for the intention of my full healing & remission of my newly diagnosed ITP autoimmune condition. Her story is a beautiful one, having been healed and visited bedside multiple times by Jesus and The Little Flower St. Therese. How cool would that be? What brought me to tears is what St. Therese said to her: “I am the Little Flower. You have been tried in the fire and not found wanting. Faith cures all things ..read more

The Coronavirus teaches graduating seniors one final lesson about faith in God
Prayer to Pen

Photo by Baim Hanif on Unsplash As a high school theology teacher, I cannot help but be reminded every spring of my own senior year and its series of meaningful social events. Things like my prom, senior suppers and graduation all served for me and my friends as rites of passage and turning points in our development. But as innumerable students around the world are being forced to miss out on such momentous occasions, my feelings of nostalgia are this year being replaced by sorrow for the graduating seniors who will never have a chance to enjoy these important social gatherings. Even wors ..read more

My Wedding Toast
Prayer to Pen

Ryan Bilodeau Thank you for being with Ann and I today. We have been dating and growing and loving each other for 2 years now. I knew I would marry her on our first date. And here we are. The moral of the story is that I am always right. Kidding. The moral of the story, actually, is that God is. For the majority of my life, I thought I would end up a priest. After a lot of prayer and reflection over these last two years, though, I simply let go and let God guide me to this place where I find peace and joy and a desire to work with Ann as partners on a path to love in this l ..read more

Announcing Catholic Booster
Prayer to Pen
by Ryan Bilodeau
3y ago
I’ve decided to launch something I’m calling Catholic Booster to spotlight beautiful acts of faith during a pandemic to give Catholics a spiritual “booster shot” while also evangelizing the billions of people at home keeping vigil on the eve of a medical cure. This period of quarantine is the single greatest opportunity to evangelize the world in a generation. Now is the time for a spiritual vaccine. Now is the time for a Catholic Booster. So starting on Good Friday and over the next few weeks and months during this time of pandemic, I plan on highlighting faithful Catholics who are ..read more

Scientific paradigm shifts ought to inject humility into the science versus religion debate
Prayer to Pen
by Ryan Bilodeau

Yet another medical study arguing against a position previously held by the scientific community has been published. This study, which was recently released by Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, has prompted a change in guidelines from the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology: People over 70 who don’t have heart disease — or are younger but at increased risk of bleeding — should avoid daily aspirin for prevention. Only certain 40- to 70-year-olds who don’t already have heart disease are at high enough risk to warrant 75 to 100 milligrams of aspirin daily, and that’s for ..read more

Weight of the Cross

In many ways Christianity can be seen as a sort of paradox. And its effects on the souls of men are best embodied by people like St. Lawrence, a martyred Deacon who told his captors to “turn him over” as they grilled him alive. Christianity is always best manifested when its faithful members have internalized their beliefs to the degree that they can mock the world and the peace it offers. Recall our history. Our early members were among those meeting lions in the Colosseum armed only with faith. And our present ones clash daily with a culture that inundates us with all that is antitheti ..read more

Catholic Ingredients Theology Course
Prayer to Pen
by Ryan Bilodeau

Today I’d like to share some exciting news about a new project on which I’m working. I have begun the creation of an online theology course called Catholic Ingredients. I am undertaking this project as an aid for Catholics hoping to cement their understanding of fundamental Church teachings. I do this out of a sense of responsibility to the Gospel and the spreading thereof. As Jesus tells us, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” The ingredients of a holy life no doubt include a firm grasp of the Catholic faith. Join us at Catholic Ingredient ..read more

Mourning the Deceased
Prayer to Pen
by Ryan Bilodeau

Two plus years of mourning (the loss of my Mom Marie Bilodeau) has afforded me insight into death as a concept and the larger process of grieving. Throughout the mourning process, my Catholic views guided and re-conceptualized my views on loss itself. Here are a few of those thoughts. You can read more of them in my book Running to Heaven: The Story of Marie Bilodeau. In St. Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, we are implored not to grieve like others who have no hope. This reminder helps guard one against a long-term nihilistic turn in spirit and psyche. Clarity of heart and mind are necess ..read more

Fantasy Football — A Real Problem
Prayer to Pen
by Ryan Bilodeau

Fantasy Football — A Real Problem It’s difficult to watch one’s favorite sports team or listen to sports-talk radio without being bombarded by advertisements for so-called “Fantasy Football” leagues Fan Duel and Draft Kings. The leagues summarize, in my estimation, modern man’s preference tendency towards “freedom from” and not the “freedom for” that comes with commitment. Such leagues allow one to pick a different team each week, and abandon that team for another just days later. If that setup isn’t a microcosm of our modern approach to relationships in general and marriage in particula ..read more
