YO, you’re going to want to read this. What does YO mean to you? Well, YO reminds me: Which do you think we’ll be discussing in this post? YO = Yarn Over in knitter language, found in knitting patterns. But what does Yarn Over actually mean in knitting? It is a literal direction for the knitter to put the yarn over the needle. It’s probably the most common way to make a mistake in knitting as a beginner. We’ll chat more about that later. I consider it to be the third kind of stitch in knitting. There’s the KNIT stitch, the PURL stitch and finally the Yarn Over (from here on out I’ll try to use ..read more

How to Easily Fix the Ripped Seam of a Plush Blanket

These are my favorite kinds of blankets, not sure about you. I even have one that is older than I am. My aunt made it for my mom before I was born. Yes, it’s kinda matted. And yes, it has holes in it from our Dachshund who chewed on it before we realized it. Looks like brown swiss cheese ??? Whatever your favorite, plush blankets need repairing too sometimes! How to tell if there is a hole in your blanket This should be simple to see where the hole is, it’s either on the seam where the front and back of the plush blankets are sewn together or in the middle of the front or back. But, the way I ..read more

How many pairs of scissors do you have in your house at this very moment? 3-4? Me? I have at least 26, not including my kids school scissors, kitchen shears or my garden shears and I know there are more that I just can’t find. Yes, 26+. What about scissors only for sewing? I guess I have a scissor habit. It’s ok though, having the right scissors for the right task is extremely important and you can never have too many scissors. Unless of course they get in the way of living your life… which mine aren’t, I can never find them when I want them! I remember when I was young, going over to friends ..read more

Cleaning a Dirty Iron
Stitch Clinic
by Marissa

The title says it all. Cleaning a dirty iron is straight forward. How does an iron get dirty? A few ways that come to mind, using too hot an iron on a fabric that melts and using an iron to fuse interfacing but accidentally touching the iron to the part that sticks. To clean your iron, you just need the right tools and the right frame of mind. Don’t clean your iron if you haven’t had enough to eat and your hands are shaky. Or under any other circumstances where you feel shaky. Your fingers get really close to the stinking hot soleplate, you’ve been warned. If your hands shake naturally, like m ..read more

The Iron

The iron. They are found in literally every hotel room and the homes of those who either A) have someone born before 1980 living in them or B) have someone who wears corporate attire regularly. At first I was going to say that they are in EVERY home but I feel like that just isn’t true anymore, there is a whole generation or two of folks who don’t know what it’s like to need pressed clothes everyday. (I lump myself in that category too even though I was born before 1980.) Even if you don’t have one, yet, hopefully we all know what an iron is. It’s usually used in a home to get wrinkles out of ..read more

Best Knitting Books
Stitch Clinic

Having the internet at your finger tips every day is very convenient. You can search up just about anything and be amazed and distracted by the results. I don’t know about you, but I love good old-fashioned books. I don’t have a huge library or anything but all our bedrooms, the hallway, the kitchen and basement all have at least one bookshelf. I like to play librarian and weed out what we don’t need and acquire what I think would be helpful. My stash of crafting books has had the least amount of change, I have curated what I think are the best knitting books (and sewing too, that’ll be a post ..read more
