Depending on your hairstyle and your hair type, you may want to use a styling product.  While most guys my age still associate hair product with 90s boy bands and frosted tips, hair styling has actually evolved quite a bit in the past few years.  You now have tons of options that won't make your hair look like a porcupine.  These two photos are some random models from O'Douds using a pomade and wax, two of the more common hair styling products of the current day.   Hair Product Characteristics We'll discuss product types below, but the main characteristics that each will differ in are hold, s ..read more

Note most of the information on this page is from this blog post, so feel free to reference it for further information.   Determine Your Skin Type What type of skin are you? That's going to be the question to answer for determining a lot of products, since they get targeted at different types of skin (if you've ever seen a moisturizer for dry skin, now you know why).  The major types of skin are: Dry: Your skin feels dry and flaky a few hours after you wash it. Oily: The other extreme of dry skin - your skin feels oily a few hours after you wash it. Note that dehydrated skin can cause an oil ..read more

If you've ever had a question along the lines of "What does a [insert product type here] even do?", you're not alone. Well you might be alone if you're wondering what soap does, but anyways I'm still pretty sure no one actually knows what a toner is. Back to the task at hand - this article is looking to define these different skincare products. I'll keep the same 'Essential' vs 'Optional' product breakdown that I had in the basics article as well - basically everyone will recommend you use the 'Essential' products regularly while there's always debates about the efficacy of the 'Optional' prod ..read more

Alright now we're literally done going through the motions and can get onto the science. Or pseudo-science. Whatever you consider skincare in the end, these are the ingredients that are most often found in your products. Note that the ingredient ranking system is stolen - I mean 'borrowed' - from INCIDecoder's database.  I am not an expert on this, so I'm falling back on people who are.  Anyways they rank ingredients by how effective they typically are (in *gasp* scientific experiments *end gasp*). So we'll use that as a baseline for looking at the various chemicals & extracts. Superstar ..read more

Skincare Routines

The goal of any routine is going to be to clean your face/body from the day's grime, moisturize your skin, and protect it for the rest of the day. You're normally going to want to have two stages - morning and night.  You can get away with only a morning routine or only a night routine, but its typically better to do both.  If you do want to take the one-time-per-day route, I'd personally recommend doing it at night before you go to sleep.  Why? Two reasons - first, no one is going to see you for the rest of the day so you don't have to worry about your face being shiny from moisturizers.
