Ciceley Motorsport have revealed a new livery for the 2020 BTCC season, with the team competing under the Carlube Triple R Racing with Cataclean & Mac Tools name. The arrival of Carlube as a major sponsor means that the coming season will mark the first time that both Ciceley-run cars have run under the same team name and livery, and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class outfit will be looking to build on a frustrating 2019 season. Motorbase Performance has confirmed that it will make the change to a fourth-generation Ford Focus for the 2020 BTCC season, with the build of three brand-new cars currently underway. After making the switch from running the BMW 320si to the Ford Focus ST in 2011, Motorbase have campaigned in the model since with the introduction of the new fourth-generation marking the team’s tenth year with the same model. TOCA, the BTCC series organiser has revealed that development of the hybrid power system set to be used in the BTCC from 2022 is ahead of schedule. Teams, partners and stakeholders were advised of the progress at a recent BTCC Hybrid Working Group. The BTCC became the first major global touring car championship to make the move to hybrid power in August 2018, and from the start of 2022, every BTCC car on the grid will have an incorporated hybrid system. Mark Blundell Motorsport will join the 2020 BTCC grid after forming a strategic partnership with Shaun Hollamby’s two-car Honda Civic Type R FK2 outfit. Chris Smiley will swap from BTC Racing to Excelr8 Motorsport for the 2020 BTCC season, as the Northern Irishman was announced as the driver for the team’s second Hyundai i30 N Performance. Toyota’s return to the BTCC ahead of the 2019 season was one of the biggest talking points of last year.
