Working Harder Isn't the Answer
Langston's World

We live in a world where we believe that we can do anything if we only work hard enough. A nice as it would be if this were true, it is not. We all have limitations and the more familiar we are with them, the soon we can push past them through the use of systems. We spend the majority of our lives in systems: Financial Systems, School systems, Transit systems, Prison Systems Military-Industrial Complex Despite how much time we spend in systems, we rarely ever have an opportunity to create them. The creation of systems is critical for lasting freedom. The only way we can ..read more

Black Privilege - The Gift That Keeps Giving
Langston's World

White vs. Black Privilege: Although very different, both have important uses and applications and are needed today. Privilege has tremendous value in the process of healing the wounds of our past and balancing the scales of justice. The solution is NOT to pretend like privilege doesn't exist, but instead, embrace our privilege to make America great for the first time.   The Origins of Black Privilege  Black children, born in America during slavery, were born into one of the most hostile environments in human history. If your ancestors were slaves, understand only the strongest, bra ..read more

Friendly Neighborhood Black Supremacists
Langston's World

Black supremacy is one of the most misunderstood concepts in America. In a country where the ideals of "beauty and success" are typically based around western ideals, black supremacy can be a very contentious philosophy. The irony is that black supremacy has nothing to do with any other group of people other than black people.  When racial supremacy is brought up, we typically think of groups such as the Nazis and KKK. These groups, in particular, claimed racial superiority only through putting down and destroying other races. Meanwhile, Black supremacy doesn't require another racia ..read more

Who Owns Black Culture? Pt. 1
Langston's World
by Langston White

Over the past century, black people in America have been at the center of countless innovations. Despite their contributions, their compensation has not been proportionate. In many cases, the lack of credit has been criminal. Today, these same abuses continue. The Question: When will we stop allowing the fruits of our creative genius to be consumed by the culture vultures. The Answer: When we we're ready. The truth is we have had the power all the time. It is easy to get caught up in the ideals upon which this country was founded. Unfortunately, history has taught us that high ideals are not ..read more

Leaving the Plantation Vol. 1
Langston's World
by Langston White

What plantation!?!? After a short conversation with my Dad, I realized how alone the black millennial in America is. There is no outside salvation coming to liberate us. We are going to have to escape the plantation of 9-5 ourselves. The reason I say this is because my father isn’t just an outlier, he is the embodiment of Black Baby Boomers who’ve “made it”. Went to college, got a job and worked their way into the middle class. DANGER! This is not 1979. 2019 vs 1979 The model of “go to school, get a degree and work for someone” is broken. About 80% of college grads don’t work in their field of ..read more

Why Black Kids Underachieve
Langston's World

Intuition Children are magical intuitive little beings. Don’t take my word for it, just listen to the mind-blowing questions they ask. Listen to the mind-numbing observations that make. Mommy, how come James can have the new “insert overpriced gadget here” and I can’t. Is Donald Trump Racist and what is the wall? Why doesn’t Dad come home anymore? Why does your shirt say black lives matter? Do white lives matter too? Eventually, these questions stop. Why? Because they already know the answer. They intuitively have concluded that they are not as privileged, they did something right, or life isn ..read more

A Reasonable Doubt

Give Jay-Z the benefit of the doubt Can he live? Who are you to question Jay-Z’s decisions? I’m not defending Jay-Z because he’s a musician. I’m defending him because we have no right to tell him how he should or should not be spending his money. I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that virtually every reader here has put money into the pockets of a company that doesn’t even want to take your black dollars for fear that their brand might be considered too urban (Gucci, Adidas, Polo). Voting Rights When it comes to voting rights: We ain’t got none! These rights come with investments ..read more

Langston's World

Episode 1: The birth of a super hero As a black man in America life is already challenging. That challenge is multiplied by being in a place like Boston. All over the country you hear rumors about the state of racial affairs in Boston. Despite how often or passionately these rumors are whispered, the claims are always difficult to substantiate. After I snapped I could identify that which was always felt and never seen, the primary force behind so much pain and frustration. It was almost as though snapping was the beginning of my super hero origin story. As soon as I snapped it was as though my ..read more
