this is a bit of a controversial one for me personally because this book is brilliant as it is and it’s just real is so real and raw when you are listening to his storeys and the way he explains things and tells you excerpts of his life you can relate to them on every level is hilarious and you you listening to it like Yep I’ve done something like that before and you sat there nodding and laughing along with him but at the same time the mantra of this book is very different almost the polar opposite to the followings of the ikigai so mark Manson basically goes against the whole manifestation t ..read more

This book for me went hand in hand with the ikigai book that Josh Connelly recommended for me to read, I started listening to it on audible on my way to work just to get a deeper understanding the origins of ikigai really and what it meant the history of it is very interesting, the fact that it is a lifestyle choice was very relevant to me at the time because I felt like I was going through a massive change in myself, and this book explained how to appreciate the simple things in life and recognise that they can benefit you too so looking at this and I’m listening to it really helped me unders ..read more

So since Covid19 – it came around obviously life has changed quite a lot for everyone I thought when it all started this is going to be a massive opportunity for me to get loads of writing done and be really productive get my life together type thing, that has happened but not exactly how I wanted it to in the sense of taking care of myself, I’ve started running um I go to the gym a lot more and I’m a bit more conscious with water and eating – I am now because I’m seeing results so yeah that’s a definite hobby.  One of the main things that I’ve been trying to focus on is why I’ve kind of ..read more

Tenet so I went to go see Tennant Christopher Nolan’s ninth film obviously I’m a massive Christopher Nolan fan, so I was really looking forward to seeing this film – also because it’s got Robert Pattinson in and anyone who knows me knows, I’m a massive Robert Pattinson fan.  I’m missing some really good niche movies um obviously Twilight was the main reason of how he got onto the screen which I’m a huge fan of that as well, that’s my self-therapy movie, but anyway I’m digressing.  So yeah I went to go see Tenet and it blows your mind don’t go see it if you want to chill out movie you ..read more

I’ve read several blog posts around the subjects of aging and the changing dynamic of friendships. I’m lucky in the sense that my friends have been my friends since nursery school, when we re-group, after a day, or a month – it’s no different to the last time we saw each other, its happy, funny, we enjoy the company and pick up where we left off. We celebrate together, we are honest together and we turn to each other for advice. We support and guide each other – but from a distance, slowly guiding each other. My 30’s are showing me that I am lucky to have these people in my life, and as I look ..read more

So I read a book that isn’t my usual style, I came across this on my recommended reads and after reading a couple of reviews – people using the phrase “unexpected” and “twists” got me intregued. I began reading this and experiencing a different style of writing – it is very plain, factual and I found it to read like more of a documentary or collection of personal journals, it is captivating but not with the language as such, more so with the story, and the fact you never really know who in the book to trust, who is telling the truth, and when you think you can predict what is going to happen ..read more

Quarantine life and my lack of productivity

So this year should have been me seizing the opportunity and getting more writing done, I have done a little, but I also have done a lot of procrastinating, and well – a lot of nothing. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to doing the best. You constantly see conflicting posts “Don’t feel guilty for doing nothing – just do you!” and “Learn a new language, take up a new hobby!” To be perfectly honest, this whole experience began with it not really affecting me, and the closer we get to a potential end, the more its consuming me. I sleep more, pretty much all day, and spend all night feeling g ..read more

Everything is a joke to you, Even when I’ve done wrong, You make me laugh when I’m worried and tell me off with your song. You’ve raised me to be strong, resilient and kind, But right now I’m weak, and your always on my mind, Your not as strong as you used to be, you are getting old, Your humour is darker, and your slowing down, I’ve been told. I want to protect you, but you laugh and bat me away “Yes daughter – we all die, someday” But it isnt funny, I’m worried, I care. I don’t want an existance where you are not there. I want your jokes to follow me, until I too, am grey and old, I want to ..read more

Words to keep you safe

As I sit here on my chair, Thinking of you, your fluffy grey hair. Your wrinkly face, and your translucent skin, A smile that could forgive a thousands sins. Hands so soft, they put me at ease, And words as gentle, as a summer breeze. Our hearts and body’s are miles apart, But I can feel you fighting, deep in my heart. Your voice reassures me, your words are so kind, remiscent of memories, we left behind. Someday we’ll meet, again, sometime soon, and until then, I’ll be thinking of you. We don’t know where, or when it will be, But life starts again, when you are back with me. For my grand ..read more

There is madness this year, we writers wanted the world to stop for us to take a deep dive into our pieces and get them finished and polished and ready to share – and we have that – or some of us have that opertunity, but at what cost? As a key worker (I work for the NHS) I unfortunatley cannot use this difficult and uncertain time writing, I have work, volunteering at work, and then worrying about various family members and trying to get food shopping incase it get’s even more crazy than it is now. And why am I worrying you say? Because Reading. Reading. That is why. It began with the st ..read more
