OILY SKIN: WHAT IT IS, HOW TO COPE, AND THE BEST FACIAL PRODUCTS FOR YOU Seems we always want what we don’t have. If we have straight hair, we wish it was more wavy or curly. If we have curly hair, we spend all kinds of time straightening it. The same seems to apply to skin—those of us with dry skin wish only for more hydration, while those of us with oily skin get so fed up with the endless shininess! “I have super oily skin with large pores,” says one of our blog readers, “we are talking shiny after an hour of my morning cleanse.” This sums up the problem with oily skin very nicely—shininess and large pores. Is there anything you can do that will help? We have some solutions for you to try. what is oily skin? Some people think they have oily skin, when in truth, they have combination skin—oily only in the T-zone, or the forehead, nose, and chin areas. Truly oily skin typically has the following characteristics: •     looks shiny or greasy everywhere•     appears thick and coarse•     has enlarged pores•     occasional breakouts One way to test your skin to see if it is truly oily is to wash it in the morning with a gentle cleanser, pat it dry, avoid applying any make-up or lotion, and wait an hour or two. When you look in the mirror, if your face is shiny and covered in oil, you have oily skin. If your cheeks are dry but your forehead and nose are shiny, you have combination skin. what causes it? Oily skin is caused by over-active sebaceous glands that produce excessive amounts of skin oil, called “sebum.” Typically it is hereditary, meaning that if one or both of your parents had oily skin, you may have it, too. In addition, exposing the skin to too many products that upset its own natural balance can also trigger the over-production of oil. what are the problems associated with oily skin? If you have oily skin, you may also suffer from the following problems: CLOGGED PORES Too much oil dirt and clogs pores resulting in blemishes and breakouts.  SHINE Oily skin looks shiny and greasy. RUNNY COSMETICS You have a hard time keeping makeup in place, and often have to blot and reapply. The good news is that oily skin ages more slowly than dry skin, so when you move into your 40s and beyond, you may actually be thankful for your oiliness! “I’ve learned to love and embrace my oily skin,” says another one of our readers. “Look at all those poor women out there with dry skin who constantly have to replace what we already have in abundance!” Daily routine for combating excess oil Even though your skin may age more slowly than other types, that’s little consolation when you’re looking at large pores and shine. When looking for ways to help control your oil production, start with some basic steps. 1. WASH ONLY TWICE A DAY Even though the oil crops back up within a couple hours, resist the urge to wash again. If you strip the oils too much, your skin will react by producing even more, which is definitely what you don’t want. If you wash off that excess oil more than that, use water alone. 2. USE A DISSOLVING CLEANSER You want your cleanser to gently dissolve the oils and deeply clean at the same time. Try our Perfect 10 Oil Cleanser, which is formulated specifically for oiliness. It will remove dirt, excess oil, makeup, and impurities without harsh chemicals, and will help unclog pores. Apply directly to dry skin and gently massage. Rinse with warm water using a cloth or pad. 3. TONE CAREFULLY Again, the danger here is over-stripping your natural oils and causing a backfire in oil production. You want a toner that is gentle but effective. Try our CC Serum with Vitamin C and Citrus Stem Cells which Stimulates collagen to improve firmness while also Reducing discoloration & enhances tone 4. BALANCE THE OILS IN YOUR SKIN This is critical in oily skin types, and the step that most people struggle with. You know the problem is too much oil, so you try to get rid of that oil, but oftentimes that means harsh products that just strip the skin, damage the outer layer, and lead to increased oil production in the long run, as well as accelerated aging. Natural oils have an amazing ability to work with the body to balance the way your skin looks, which is why we’re so sold on them and know you can find the best oil for your skin, too. You may think, “apply oils to oily skin?” But just try it—you’ll be amazed at the results, we’re sure. Use our Perfect 10 Oil Cleanser which Gently removes dirt, impurities, oil, sunscreen & stubborn makeup while also Moisturizing and leaving skin clean, soft & radiant seven tips for oily types Once you’ve got your daily routine down, it’s time to add in a few extra steps that will improve the appearance and behavior of your skin. 1. USE A MASK 2-3 TIMES A WEEK. Masks help reduce the oily appearance on the face for days at a time. Plus they can help pores appear smaller. Try our Clay Mask with Activated Charcoal which uses 3 mineral-rich clays to give a toner and tighter appearance to the skin. 2. EXFOLIATE 2-3 TIMES A WEEK. Just be careful not to over-exfoliate, because that can cause skin damage and may encourage your skin you produce more oil. 3. CONSIDER YOUR DIET. Foods high in fats, sugars, and unhealthy oils can cause a negative reaction in your skin. Choose healthy fruits and vegetables and lean proteins, and cut down on sugar-sweetened beverages. 4. TRY WITCH HAZEL BEFORE APPLYING MAKEUP. It’s a natural salicylic acid toner. Wiping your face before applying makeup will help soak up excess oil without stripping your skin. 5. USE A LIGHT MOISTURIZER. It can be a little counter-intuitive, but using a light moisturizer with infused ingredients that cleanse can help your skin balance out its own oils overtime so that you don’t stay so oily. Try our Daily Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid which is Perfect for all skin types, you will instantly see powerful results, and more dramatic ongoing improvement over time. 6. USE OIL-FREE COSMETICS. When choosing makeup products, always find oil-free or “non-comedogenic” products that won’t clog pores. 7. DON’T OVERDO POWDER. You may think that more powder would help soak up excess oil, but it can actually get cakey and may encourage your skin to pump out more oil. Apply powder sparingly only on shiny areas, and use a matte translucent formula RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS FOR OILY SKIN CLAY MASK WITH ACTIVATED CHARCOAL Triple-action detoxifying rose-scented mask with activated charcoal and 3 earth clays DAY MOISTURIZER WITH HYALURONIC ACID Handmade with the purest ingredients, Monsia Day Moisturizer is a luxurious, rejuvenating moisturizer you can smooth over your face and neck to soften and renew your skin. How to Care for Dry Skin Dry skin might seem simple, but it’s a complicated topic. Making it even more complicated are the contradictory findings about dry skin in countless scientific journals. Yet despite the differing, overly technical details found in those studies, there are two basic, though critical points of unanimous agreement. The first is that skin’s surface layers have between 10% to 30% water content, and maintaining this level of hydration is tremendously important. The second fact is that intact skin does a far better job of holding hydration than impaired skin. Without question, hydrated skin is beautiful to behold. When skin is properly moisturized, it’s flexible and supple, both hallmarks of younger skin. Normal hydration also allows skin to preserve and sustain the natural substances it relies on to keep it healthy-looking and visibly protected from negative environmental influences. Hydrated skin is also better able to naturally shed (exfoliate) built-up dead skin which allows younger skin to reveal itself and help a well-formulated moisturizer absorb better. When skin is dry, all these elements of healthy, younger, and hydrated skin literally dries up. Thankfully, the research has reached enough consensus to outline the path you can take to turn your dry skin into hydrated, nourished, and plump-looking skin. Why Your Skin Gets Dry There are many reasons why skin becomes dry, but fundamentally it happens when skin’s surface becomes disrupted and steadily dismantled. Genetics (what you inherited from your parents), environmental damage, sun damage from accumulated unprotected sun exposure, climate influences, your health, your age, or a combination of those things can be primary or secondary causes. The type of skincare products you use can also be a factor if they contain harsh or drying ingredients that disturb skin’s surface. Regardless of the cause, the result is your skin can’t maintain its normal moisture level. Your course of action? To reestablish skin’s surface so it can stay perfectly hydrated. When you start providing your skin what it needs to remain intact and smooth, it will better be able to stay hydrated. This simple act done consistently can bring about dramatic change in the feel and appearance of your skin! How to Restore Hydration to Skin Given the core issue of dry skin is a broken surface, the two primary goals are to put it back together again and stop doing things that tear it apart. Drenching skin in replenishing and skin-restoring ingredients is the key to hydrating the building blocks of skin. These blocks hold skin together just like mortar holds bricks, keeping precious moisture where it’s supposed to be so skin visibly improves. The following lists are what you need to stop doing and what you need to start doing break the cycle of having dry, uncomfortable skin. Stop drying and damaging skin’s surface by avoiding these things: 1. Soaps (all kinds, and anything in bar form)   2. Drying cleansers of any kind (only gentle, skin-softening cleansers allowed)   3. Products with harsh or skin-aggravating ingredients (i.e. alcohol denat., peppermint, menthol, mint, citrus, eucalyptus, and all fragrance, whether natural or synthetic)   4. Using extremely hot or cold water   5. Soaking skin for lengthy periods of time in the tub or shower will breakdown skin (too much water is as problematic as too little water)   6. Abrasive scrubs, loofahs, or stiff-bristled cleansing brushes that cause micro-tears in skin’s surface   Start giving your skin the things it needs to stay hydrated and radiant: 1. Wear sunscreen with an SPF 30 or greater 365 days of the year, rain or shine It only takes one minute of unprotected sun exposure to start chipping away at your skin’s surface stability. When skin is compromised from repeated, unprotected sun exposure, it slowly but surely makes it less able to hold moisture or feel smooth, to say nothing of the wrinkles and skin tone changes that develop.   2. Use moisturizers and serums that are filled to the brim with antioxidants, skin-replenishing ingredients, and skin-restoring ingredients. These are all the crucial elements skin needs to reconstitute itself, hold on to water, and feel supremely smooth and radiant. No one’s skin can be rehydrated without these indispensable substances that skin thrives on.   3. Gently exfoliate: Helping skin to shed built-up surface layers of dead skin as it would if it was hydrated and healthy is a fundamental part of any skincare routine. Young skin can exfoliate dead skin all on its own but that changes as we get older. The most non-irritating, gentlest way to do this is with a well-formulated clay mask. These types of products imperceptibly reveal the hydrated, smoother, radiant skin that’s hiding underneath.   4. Use boosters that contain Vitamin C (no fragrant oils) or a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. Many non-fragrant plant oils not only have skin-softening properties but they also can replenish skin with vital lipids and antioxidants that are even gentle enough for skin prone to eczema. Hyaluronic acid is unique as it is a natural substance in skin that can hold 1000 times its weight in water. Because skin loses its natural hyaluronic acid content as we age, returning that ingredient can make a dramatic improvement in hydration.   5. Don’t forget your lips: Lips are the least capable of staying smooth and soft. Do not leave your lips naked, day or night. During the day, it’s essential to apply and reapply an emollient lipstick, gloss, or balm and during daylight hours, it needs to contain sunscreen!   6. Constant exposure to dry environments, cold weather, or low-humidity air from heaters or air conditioners can also be problematic because they impair and degrade the skin’s protective surface. Adding a humidifier to your home can make a world of difference! Will Drinking Water Help Dry Skin? It’s generally assumed that drinking water is beneficial for your health but do you need to down 8 glasses every day? There’s no medical support for the notion that 8 glasses is the right number. In fact, many experts think it’s little more than hogwash, especially considering a good deal of the water intake we need comes from the foods we eat, not just in a glass of water. But does drinking water help dry skin? Until very recently, there was no research indicating that drinking any amount of water had any impact on skin. Then a study published in Clinical Cosmetic Investigative Dermatology demonstrated that drinking water did positively impact skin; however, it would take a lot more than 8 glasses to see benefit. The study demonstrated that it would take just under a gallon of water (8 glasses = half a gallon) to realize a statistical improvement in your skin. It was a complex study with 49 participants, but it was still an interesting analysis on water consumption and skin. One study doesn’t prove you should start downing a gallon of water to watch your skin improve. Still, other than going to the bathroom more often there certainly isn’t anything wrong with it—especially if you’re choosing water over sugar-laden beverages. Whatever quantity you decide to drink, it certainly won’t replace the skincare recommendations we strongly urge you to follow. Getting the best skin of your life definitely involves what you ingest but what you apply to its surface to keep it healthy-looking and hydrated can make all the difference in the world. Los Angeles, CA — A research team in southern California has made a remarkable discovery that may finally offer a solution for the problem of loose, saggy skin. Lead researcher Kristy Kelly has been overwhelmed by the response to their breakthrough. “We’re a small lab, and totally unprepared for this kind of press attention. The phone hasn’t stopped ringing for a week.” At a press conference last Friday, Kelly and her team unveiled a surprisingly simple “treatment” which restores skin to a dramatically more youthful condition. The solution targets a toxic protein which scientists have linked to thin, saggy skin — especially on the lower face, jawline, and neck. “As we age, this toxin eats away at elasticity and firmness,” explained Mrs. Kelly. “But we found a way to help prevent this process which effectively lifts, firms, and tightens aging skin.” The skincare professionals in the room were stunned by the results, especially when they learned that this solution does not require expensive surgical procedures. In fact, this breakthrough is literally one-of-a-kind: a simple, at-home solution using scientifically-proven compounds to restore skin to a taut, smooth, and younger-looking state. At one point in her presentation, Mrs. Kelly displayed a graph showing that one ingredient increased skin firmness and density in an astonishing 92% of users. “But what’s really fascinating is that the combined results create a sculpting or ‘remodeling’ effect,” she added. “Generating a much younger appearance — as much as 5 to 7 years younger, in many cases.” Reporters and researchers bombarded her with requests for more information on this sculpting solution. Mrs. Kelly announced that her team had produced a short video explaining how it works and how simple it is to use. They released the video to the public later that afternoon, and over the weekend it hit the benchmark of a “viral video” in the US and Canada. Based on the comments, the response has been exceedingly positive. One viewer remarked, “Very compelling video. I’m more than intrigued by the solution they offer and I’ll definitely try it for myself.”Kris WATCH THE VIDEO >> The video also sparked some controversy, especially within the community of cosmetic surgeons. As one dermatologist at the conference said, “This is definitely exciting new research. If it works as well as the evidence suggests, I can see why surgeons would be concerned — who wouldn’t prefer something simple, safe, and effective that can be used at home?” The post 2019 New Discovery appeared first on Monsia. ..read more
