Please note, Cephalonia doesn’t have its own flag. It shares one with all of the Septinsular Republic. So if I manage to complete Corfu, Paxoi, Lefkada, Ithaca, Zante or Kythira in the future I will be using the same flag. Firstly can I apologise that it has taken so long to get a beer blog out. My mental health has taken a major hit over the course of 2023 & I had lost all motivation to write anything. I’ve had this beer in my possession for around 12 months and have written this blog on and off for about 6 months. I have taken professional help to try & pull me out the rut & I f ..read more

Not a beer blog: NASCAR

About 6 weeks ago I discovered that the official NASCAR account on YouTube was publishing complete races from all categories of NASCAR racing. This enabled me to immerse myself fully into a genre of motorsport which is something I haven’t been able to do for years. When I was young I would watch every live F1 race on the BBC. However recently here in the UK, the tv rights for full races has switched to Sky & so it is no longer free to view. In this current cost of living crisis, I don’t have the disposable income to spend on sky so that leaves me with 2 options if either a condensed race ..read more

I have really been struggling with motivation recently with this project. I drank this beer before Christmas however only just got round to writing up the rest of the blog. Poor show on my part, it know. Anyway, it’s time to start exploring again so let’s start back stateside. I’ve seen many photos of New Hampshire in Autumn with the leaves turning different colours, however I know very little about the area itself. I looking to researching it. Right, beer time….. Spyglass Brewing Company – Blockchain This 8%, 1 pint can cost an eye watering £10.60 from the winesellar in Wolverhampton. Sadly ..read more

My dad used to have a penpal in Zimbabwe. He lived in the second biggest city of Bulawayo. Every letter was greeted with expectation & joy as you could go weeks with no contact, but then get 3 letters in a week due to him running out of space on the fold out airmail letters he had to use. These were a joy in their own right as they were embossed with safari animals or exotic plants. I’m sure in one of the box files in dads old study he has probably kept every single letter, I just haven’t discovered the box yet! I’m back!!! It’s been a while since I released a blog of any form. I thought it wise to take a break as I was finding these blogs to almost be a requirement that had to be done each week instead of enjoying the process and releasing them when they were ready. Recently I decided to invest some time and start searching various beer websites to see how many more places I could tick off. This is the first one that I dropped on, so let’s get on with trying some beer! Empresa de Cervejas da Madeira – Coral This 5.1%, 330ml bottle cost just £2.20 from Beers of Europe. A very light, sweet beer whic ..read more

It’s been quite a few weeks since I posted a beer blog, but it certainly feels good to get another one under my belt. I had the pleasure of visiting this country back in 2015, so researching this blog I hope will bring back many happy memories. Firstly though before I start looking into the history, I think it’s time to drink some beer! Clausel – Gezwickelten A massive Thankyou needs to go out to @hoppy_steve who contacted me through Twitter and said he was going to Luxembourg in a couple of weeks. He only had hand luggage and so was going to be limited to things he could find in Duty Free ..read more

My Orienteering Diary: Howe Wood

2 weeks ago I entered my first event in many years around a public park in Stoke. On the whole I feel that went really well and was a good reintroduction to the sport. However it wasn’t the most technical of maps (you wouldn’t expect a public park to be), so I decided to head to this event in Howe wood, hoping for a nice technical map with lots of small features to navigate between. To my surprise what I actually got was a small section of running through the wood and then the majority of the route was out in the urban sprawl of Milton Keynes. Not what I was expecting, but certainly helpful ..read more

About 4 weeks ago I decided that I needed to get back into a sport which I competed in when I was a teenager. Part of this decision came from wanting to get out in the open air more, but also as my fitness is improving through doing Parkrun each week I felt that I needed a way of developing this without the need of going down a sweaty gym or just pounding the streets without much of a goal. Yes, Strava helps with segments set along the roads (other mobile apps are available). However I find myself running the same route over and over again. Doing this I just loose interest. Partly why I visit ..read more

It’s been a long and winding road, however this blog marks a major milestone. More on that later. I’ve had to put done serious effort in to locate this beer as this county seems to not like exporting its produce far & wide, like others. I can understand keeping what is good to yourself, but, surely it’s time to share the wealth! XT – Diamondback This 4.2%, 440ml can cost just £2.80 from the brewery tap room. However it’s worth bearing in mind that the train cost me £29.20 to get to the nearby station of Haddenham and Thame Parkway, so realistically this been cost me quite a lot more! A ..read more

It’s great when things fall into place. Every year I attend the FA Vase final at Wembley Stadium. I normally head down to London for the weekend just to give myself a chance to explore somewhere new (and do a different Parkrun). This year I made plans to meet up with Peter Dudley after I had done the Parkrun. He had very kindly sourced this beer so I think it’s time to try it! George’s – Cockleboaters Best Bitter This 4%, 500ml bottle cost £4. A big Thankyou to Pete Dudley who was able to locate it for me! A proper best bitter! Sweet, malty but with a burnt aftertaste. There is almost the s ..read more
