AWAKENED/STIRRED: Ur, verb (Strong’s 5782) Root: עוּר Sounds like: oor This past Monday (April 8, 2024) I was privileged to witness the beauty of a solar eclipse in totality. It was a tactile experience where you could actually feel the temperature drop as the sky slowly darkened and then re-emerged into light. Honestly, it stirred me; it awakened in me a renewed sense of awe at how wonderful God’s creation is, with everything beautifully orchestrated and refined. This universe is truly amazing and I’m thankful to YHWH for placing me within it. Today’s Hebrew word is UR, which means to be stir ..read more

GREEN: yereq, masculine noun (Strong’s 3418); yaroq, masculine noun (Strong’s 3387). Root: ירק Sounds like: yeh’rek & yaw’rohk I love diving into family history and I’ve been obsessed with it since I was a young teen. My income is provided by being a library technician; my ministry is HebrewWordLessons; but my hobby is genealogy. Today is St.Patrick’s Day and many people turn a blind eye to their authentic heritage and embrace their Irishness, whether they have any Irish in them or not. I did a DNA test a few years ago and my adult children just did it recently. They have a tiny bit of Iri ..read more

Naphakh: to blow out, verb (Strong’s 5301); Nasham: to breathe in, verb (Strong’s 5395); N’shamah/Nishmat: breath/inhalation, feminine noun  (Strong’s 5397). Naphakh root: נָפַח    Sounds like: na-fawk Nasham/N’shamah/Nishmat root: נָשַׁם    Sounds like: na-shawm For the most part we take our breath for granted. Rarely do we see it, except on a very cold day. Ideally we do not smell it, although morning breath and garlic breath join a list of exceptions. And only when we are sick do we hear it through wheezing or coughing. Otherwise breath is like a lonely soldier, qui ..read more

One Million Thank Yous!

On the morning of Tuesday February 27th this “not so little anymore” blog hit ONE MILLION views. In the grand scheme of internet views that’s only a tiny droplet in the big worldwide bucket… but that little droplet is the ministry I’ve been assigned to do, and I’m immensely delighted at the success this project has obtained. Who would have thought that a blog about a compilation of faith-based literature, in an ancient Semitic language, would have any type of regular readership? What I mean to say is… who reads this stuff?! Well, apparently you do! And so I say thank you to YOU. Thank you for ..read more

On High: Ma’rohm, masculine noun (Strong’s 4791). Last week we looked at the phrase Who is like You? This week we’re going to continue looking at Psalm 71:19 and the word(s) “on high” or in Hebrew, ma’rohm. Let’s take a look at how various translations break down Psalm 71:19… NASB: For Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, You who have done great things; God, who is like You? NKJV: Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high, You who have done great things; O God, who is like You? Aramaic Bible: And your righteousness, oh God, is unto The Highest Place, and the great things that yo ..read more

LIKE YOU: ka-mohka from the adverb k’moh (Strong’s 3644). I’ve been at this blog for a while now (since 2017) and I’ve spoken very little about Hebrew grammar. That will change this week. Hopefully that last sentence didn’t stop you in your tracks and you’re still reading. If you’re like many people, the word grammar makes you shudder, but actually it’s vital to understanding Hebrew text and translations. For the next two weeks we’re going to take deeper dive into Psalm 71:19, breaking down the grammar and looking at two phrases within the verse. Here is the verse according to the NASB transla ..read more

Masas: MELTING like Wax

To Melt: Mas/Masas, verb (Strong’s 4549). Root: מָסַס Prince Edward Island was hit with the third largest snowstorm of the decade last weekend. For a time, I couldn’t open my front door because it was bombarded with snow, up to my shoulders. But now the temperature has dropped and things are starting to melt. Canadians tend to always associate melting with snow or ice… and these things weren’t uncommon to the Israelite people. Snow has always been a part of Israel, but primarily only in the North, along the peaks of the Bashan mountain range (currently known as the Golan Heights). Although sno ..read more

Yad: Revisiting the HAND
Hebrew Word Lessons

I’m on day 11 without the full use of my right hand (after thumb reconstruction surgery). It’s been an interesting challenge. You don’t recognize how important your dominant hand is, until you’re restricted from using it. My Mum came from the neighbouring province of New Brunswick to help me out. She’s been cooking meals, shoveling the snow, feeding the cats, tying my shoes, washing my hair. She’s been a gift to me and I’m so grateful to have her in my life.  The Hebrew root word for hand is YAD, and the first time we come across the word in the Hebrew Bible it’s associated with taking. R’pha’eni: HEAL Me

Hello folks! On Wednesday, January 24th, I went to the hospital for thumb reconstruction surgery on my right hand. I’ve come through it alright. There’s significant pain, but God has given me the strength to handle it. This surgery will slow me down considerably when it comes to this blog and my school studies, so I request your patience and your prayers!  Physical healing is quite an amazing thing. A small cut can heal over in a matter of hours, a biopsied liver can regenerate and grow back, organs can be transplanted, broken bones can fuse together, and a stopped heart can be restarted ..read more
