Young Explorers 2020 - Fish Day

Today was the last Young Explorer Day of the summer and it was all about fish. To start we toured the aquarium to see the diversity of fish and other animals that call the Bay of Fundy home. We also explored the beach, made a few crafts, played bingo, did a scavenger hunt around the aquarium, and did a fish dissection. Below are a few photos from the day of exploration. Young Explorers 2020 - Whale Day

Today for Whale Day we brought out some treasures from the back rooms of the lab to show the Young Explorers. We had right whale and fin whale baleen, porpoise and dolphin teeth, vertebrae, and a rib that was larger than most of the Young Explorers! We had fun exploring the beach and found many crabs. Since the aquarium was closed we were able to take a tour and then later in the day had a scavenger hunt. We also played a game and did a few experiments. This week we welcomed the third week of Young Explorers to the aquarium for learning and fun. Check out the photos below to see what we were up to this week. Learning about external fish anatomy by playing Create-a-Fish. Each Young Explorer had to give their fish a name, and let us know where it lives and what it eats. Yesterday was Seal Day at the Aquarium for the Young Explorers. Along with learning about seals we explored the intertidal zone and toured the Aquarium. Check out some photos from our fun day. Exploring the intertidal zone during low tide. Searching for live animals under the rocks and seaweed. The Young Explorers found lots of green crabs of all sizes. The Young Explorers had a very busy and active week learning about marine biology at the aquarium. Below are a few photos from our week.  Exploring the intertidal zone. We are so excited that we are able to offer our Young Explorer program again this summer! The theme of the first program was lobsters and other marine arthropods, such as crabs. The theme for the July 21 Young Explorers program was Sharks! This is always our most popular program in the summer. Below are some pictures of the fun. Exploring the beach at low tide.
