11 out of 22 fatalities last year may have been avoided if life jackets were worn

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency Casualty Review Panel has reviewed 22 fatalities from last year ruling that 11 lives could’ve been saved if they had been wearing a life jacket. This figure is slightly lower than last year’s number of 13 lives (out of 27 fatalities). The panel has been reviewing fatalities for 12 years, and during that time it has recorded that 200 lives may have been saved if the person was wearing a life jacket or buoyancy aid.
