The Oscars 2024: My Thoughts

Alright they did another Oscars and I should probably share my reaction to it. This might be a quick one too, for this year there wasn’t any outrageous stunt that completely ruins the whole show nor was there any surprising or stupid win. You could say this is the most standard Oscars ceremony you could have ever asked for. If we need to be negative then The Oscars’ go to host, Jimmy Kimmel is an easy punching bag. His routine just about describes the whole show, as it’s inoffensive and unimpressive. The only thing that bugged me about the show besides the unfunny host was when they played cin ..read more

The Oscars 2024: My Thoughts & Predictions

Finally got around to it my predictions just a week before the upcoming Oscars. Let’s get straight into it. Best Picture Nominees American Fiction 5 Nominations First up is probably the most ironic movie they have ever nominated for this award, as it is the ‘White people are stupid’ movie. While American Fiction is the only black centric movie nomination, it’s a film that is making fun how black stories are put into its own category, because it’s from a black perspective. It essentially makes fun of how white audiences, (which you could throw stupid award shows like The Oscars into this bracke ..read more

Toy Story – The Pixarathon (Part 1)

It’s a long time coming, but welcome to the long-awaited beginning of The Pixarathon, the final part of this Disneyathon trilogy. The Pixarathon is a long time coming because our trilogy began with The Disneyathon in January of 2019 (which feels weird to say it was five years ago). The Disneyathon was a series covering all the theatrical Walt Disney animated movies in release order until the current film as of July 2020. It is a series I will admit I would like to revisit someday, not just to add the movies that didn’t exist back in 2020, but mainly because a person’s perspective changes with ..read more

Top 10 Worst Movies of 2023
The Blog Complainer

I have some good news folks I think this might be the last worst-of-the-year list I will ever do. I actually struggled to make this list only because I didn’t see that many movies that I considered to be bad. This is not because I’m suddenly avoiding bad movies, but more of a lack of interest to seek out movies that I think I’m going to be mildly annoyed by. So this list is mainly made up of disappointments and movies I found amusingly terrible. This will likely be the last hoorah so we’re going to skip the dishonourable mentions and go straight into the list. Number 10 Knock at the Cabin Thi ..read more

Top 15 Best of 2023

2023 is at an end and a new year of movies is upon us. 2023 was another solid year for film as most of the movies I saw gave me unique experiences that I’m going to cherish for a long time. So prepare yourself for an interesting bunch of mainstream and arthouse oddities. We’re doing a best 15 again, but first, we have a very long honourable mentions list as there are a lot of movies I need to recommend before we go over the list. Honourable Mentions Dungeons & Dragons – Honour Amongst Thieves: I skipped this at the cinema thinking of it as a Marvel clone, but eventually watched it on the ..read more

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins – The Disneyathon: The Direct to Blog Sequel (Finale)

Link to Previous Part: The Disneyathon: Direct to Blog Sequel: Part 14 – Just About Over This It took just over 2½ years, but words can’t describe how happy I am to be finally at the point of writing this review. Our chosen last movie for The Direct to Blog Series is the forgotten 2D animated 2000 film from Disney and Pixar, which is Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins. Yes, this is the movie that I used as a comparison to the honestly lamer 2022 Buzz Lightyear movie that Pixar insists is what Andy saw and the reason why he wanted a Buzz Lightyear toy. This is why I say B ..read more

Movies That Used to Scare Me 2

It’s Halloween time again and I have three more movies that sort of shook me as a child. It’ll be pretty similar to last year’s post, as the movies I have are all franchise-related films. I should probably mention again that I didn’t watch any horror movies until I was in my late teens, so it’s best to take these three ‘unofficially scary movies’ with a grain of salt. Anyway, let’s get into these messed-up movies that exclusively messed up one curious 8 to 12-year-old boy. Jurassic Park (1993)   Last time I started with a Spielberg movie, so we’re doing that again here. The first time I h ..read more

After Everything it Finally Ends!

Well, folks we have finally reached the quintuple of the After film series. We’re up to After Everything and look at that we have finally found a title I didn’t instantly cringe at. This one will be a little sombre as they finally did it, they’re giving After the bow it should have gotten four movies ago. Despite the last movie being called After Ever Happy, this one here is apparently the grand finale of Tessa and Hardin’s ever-so-dysfunctional love story. An ending I can’t imagine going well, but let’s see what they’ve come up with. By the way, we’re spoiling everything about this bad boy, s ..read more

Link to Previous Part: The Disneyathon: Direct to Blog Sequel: Part 12 – Some Unexpected Hits What’s going to happen to Little Bambi   Link to Bambi (1942) Review: The Disneyathon – Part 2: The Golden Age Okay now we’re up to the oldest Disney film to get a direct-to-DVD sequel; with a whopping 60+ years between its 1942 release and the dumping of this 2006 movie. Bambi II is following along the same lines as the hit film Tarzan II, by being another midquel. This may come as a shock to you, but having a midquel to Bambi is actually not a bad idea as this midquel is set right aft ..read more

Barbenheimer – A Double Feature Whiplash

So I’m back, back from holidays. I took a trip across Europe, which was mainly an excuse from to getaway from Uni, but also proved to be a great break from The Blog Complainer. For most of June and July I wasn’t seeing any movies besides on the plane and I was often too tired from sightseeing to write anything substantial. Though its pretty funny my absence was actually quite detrimental to the summer movie season’s survival. Big movies while I was away like The Flash and the new Indiana Jones film were all huge flops and on top of that there is the current writers/actors strike that is likely ..read more
