Altered Art: Doodled Cigar Box

A little while ago, I managed to get hold of some empty cigar boxes. One caught my eye, a wooden one, and a quick spray of white paint later, it was ready for a makeover. All I need to do now is find a place to put it (or a buyer!). I started doodling flowers using a Sharpie and then filled in with the shell pattern using an ultrafine Sharpie. I scanned the lid and sides before tracing the flowers onto 160gsm card and cutting out the various layers. I had to use a lightbox to see the original, otherwise, I could have traced directly from the box. A quick coat of triple thick gloss varnish (Dec ..read more

Tangle Pattern: Punctuation [!?]

I don’t think enough is made of the double punctuation emphasis that is ‘!?’. Is it possible to have an exclamatory question? And if you’re a grammar purist, which way round should they go? Instead of answering those questions, I made a tangle pattern from them. The post Tangle Pattern: Punctuation [!?] appeared first on perfectly4med: Artist at work ..read more

This is a relatively simple tangle pattern, which could probably be drawn in a couple of different ways for speed. That said, it’ll work well as a space filler or, indeed, as a border pattern: used for this card: Strathmore Artist Tile: tan (4×4″) Unipin black pigment pen Stabilo All pencils: white / black Products from Amazon.co.uk ‹ › The post Tangle Pattern: Abacus appeared first on perfectly4med: Artist at work ..read more

This is the next instalment in a short series of new tangle patterns. I like the geometry of this one, with the curves interplaying with the curves. The negative space is quite pleasing as well, with a cross appearing as the pattern is tiled. Below are a sample card and two 3D versions of the pattern etched into wood. For the 3D tiles, I recreated the pattern in Adobe Illustrator and used greyscale tones to indicate the relative depth of the engrave using my laser cutter. Each tile is 10cm square. As a result of spray painting with white paint after engraving, I managed to emphasise the depth ..read more
