In December 2023, the Horizon 2020/CBE-JU project SUSFERT came to an end after a little over five and a half years. The project effectively created innovative bio-based fertilisers with the goal of incorporating fertiliser products and components into current production procedures and agricultural practices inside the EU. Expanding fermentation and bio-refinery capacities in Europe is flagged as being a critical biotechnological pathway for the decarbonisation of several industrial sectors such as AgBio, food, feed and industrial chemicals production, speakers at the 2023 European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology (EFIB) in Rotterdam said.
