What happened to ‘Ted Lasso’?

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Ted Lasso season 3. For the past few years, Ted Lasso has been on something of a winning streak. The show put Apple TV+ on the map, was a word-of-mouth hit, garnered critical praise, and became an Emmys juggernaut. At the time, it was kind of weird but wonderful to see how creators Bill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly turned a cynical American football coach first introduced in a series of ads designed to advertise the Premier League for Americans unfamiliar with soccer into a feel-good hit. At its peak, Ted Lasso could also pu ..read more

‘This is maybe the ugliest shot I’ve ever seen on any TV show’: ‘Ted Lasso’ wedding scene gets roasted
The Daily Dot » Apple TV

Ted Lasso may be over, and it's been fascinating to see the enthusiasm around the Apple TV+ series flatline in season 3. Now a scene from this week's finale is being held up as an example of the show's decline. The scene features the wedding of Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Jane (Phoebe Walsh), at what appears to be Stonehenge, and the way it's lit is the first distressing part, giving it a flat MCU-greenscreen look. "This is maybe the ugliest shot i've ever seen on any tv show ever am i being dramatic?" said writer @m1riamh, on a tweet that has more than 900 quote-tweets. "Why are they phot ..read more

Review: ‘Tetris’ is fun—but it reveals the weaknesses of a product movie
The Daily Dot » Apple TV
by Tiffany Kelly

I, like many other millennials, played Tetris as a kid. It’s a simple yet addictive puzzle game; you achieve points by arranging falling blocks to create a line. The backstory behind the production of the hit game, however, is a little more complex. Because it was designed in the 1980s by a Soviet engineer, there were a few hurdles in getting it licensed in the U.S. and beyond. Apple TV+’s Tetris tells that (mostly true) story. There’s a lot to like in this film, led by Rocketman’s Taron Egerton, including its whimsical onscreen graphics that make you feel as if you’re in a video game. Ultima ..read more

Now back in the big leagues, ‘Ted Lasso’ is still solid entertainment

Over its run, Ted Lasso, the unexpected wunderkind of Apple TV+, has gone from laughable underdog to top dog, a similar trajectory that AFC Richmond, the show’s fictional Premier League soccer team, is attempting to pull off in its third and final season. With clearer stakes than ever, Ted Lasso is doing plenty to ramp up those potential showdowns looming in the distance. But with some of its characters having already left the roost of AFC Richmond—some on the best of terms, others far more dramatically—Ted Lasso is starting to show some of its cracks. Ted Lasso season 3 Release Date: Mar ..read more

‘Causeway’ is Jennifer Lawrence’s most interesting role in years

Sometimes there’s nothing more satisfying than leaving two acting greats to their own devices and watching the magic form before our eyes. In that regard, Causeway, the feature directorial debut from theater directing veteran Lila Neugebauer, more than delivers. Much of the film is centered around the conversations between Lynsey (Jennifer Lawrence) and James (Brian Tyree Henry), two people who come across each other by chance and slowly open up about their respective traumas. But while the script sometimes struggles to work past some of the more rote themes, Causeway is an engrossing and int ..read more

Review: ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth’ is a charming coming-of-age film
The Daily Dot » Apple TV
by Michelle Jaworski

Cha Cha Real Smooth, Cooper Raiff’s (Shithouse) coming-of-age dramedy set during a time when people expect you to have all of your shit together, runs largely on its charm offensive. With a story that deals out laughs, awkwardness, and melancholy in spades, a great cast, and a soundtrack rife for nostalgia—including the party song whose lyrics gave Cha Cha its eclectic title—it’s also a bittersweet exploration of love, connection, and the many forms that can take. Apple TV+’s new workplace drama is the latest adaptation that uses famous actors to get us to feel something for bad bosses. Based on the Wondery podcast series of the same name, WeCrashed stars Jared Leto as WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann and Anne Hathaway as wife Rebekah Neumann (formerly Paltrow, as in Gwyneth’s cousin). In 2019, Neumann was ousted as CEO of WeWork, after the company’s fateful IPO. That's where WeCrashed starts, before working backward to show the rise before the fall.
