One reason we love unschooling is the freedom it gives. We can turn road trips into roadschooling. When other children go back to school in September, we love to go on a “not back to school” trip of some kind. The learning never stops when you are a homeschooler. It simply switches from homeschooling to roadschooling. Learning while on the road allows for so many unique and exciting experiences that we never would have been able to have without the ability to explore. Living in Canada, there is so much beautiful country to explore. We have only explored a very small section of it but wanted to ..read more

Have you ever had something come into your awareness at just the right time? That was my experience with Katy Bowman’s new book: Grow Wild. The past year and a half have been such a hard one for so many of us. As a parent, one of my big concerns was the health of my children – mentally, physically, and spiritually. Beyond the global circumstances, there were so many added stresses just to daily life. So many things had changed and no one could see the other side of the issue. I focused on things I could control – at least, to the best of my ability. We dedicated more time to family. We spent m ..read more

So many parents get so caught up in being parents that they often neglect themselves. Self care for parents is so important because it encourages you to do something for yourself – the individual you are. When was the last time you did something just for you? Have you taken the time to do something that brings you joy, just for the fun of it? Before we became parents, we had an individual identity that was determined by no one but ourselves. But, for many of us, that identity changed when our children were born. We went from identifying as individuals to identifying as a parent. Nothing wrong ..read more

The end of the another homeschooling year is upon us and with that comes a visit from our home education manager. So what is it like to be unschooling with big brother watching? If you are new to our blog, we are an unschooling family with 4 children who are currently school aged. These powerful parenting books are ones that I have read over the years since becoming a parent. They cover many different topics but all promote positive parenting techniques. We all have different parenting styles and, for my family, these books have been full of great information when I needed it. When I am stressed or overwhelmed, I love to read and learn more about the situation. Before I act, I love to know everything I can about a situation. Because of this, I read so many parenting and pregnancy books when we conceived our first child. I was overwhelmed with information. This was both ..read more

As a mom of 4 children, I know the fear surrounding the first postpartum poop. There are a lot of stories that circulate the pregnancy and parenting groups about how terrible a bowel movement postpartum can be. When Chi contacted me about this guest post, I was intrigued and really wanted to share this information. There is so much information surround birth that is not openly discussed. Let’s un-censor birth and actually talk about things. Today, we are talking about bowel movements after delivery. Empowering those who have just given birth or who are preparing for the arrival of their child ..read more
