When the SpaceX Starship rocket sailed above Earth on Thursday, NASA paid close attention.
The space agency has already awarded at least $4 billion to the spaceflight company to develop the vehicle that will place its next set of Moonwalking astronauts to the lunar south pole later this decade.

SpaceX launched the world’s most powerful rocket — and the largest flying object humans have ever built — on Thursday morning.
The launch was the third flight test, and the first successful orbital flight, for Starship and its monstrous Super Heavy rocket booster.
Starship suffered “rapid unscheduled disassembly,” which is the polite way to say it exploded, on its first two flights. No pressure for this one.

SpaceX’s Starship rocket, the most powerful ever built, successfully reached space for the second time on Thursday. After the mighty first-stage booster Super Heavy delivered Starship into Earth orbit, the rocket achieved many firsts. But it also fell short.

Round two of NASA’s newest Moon project is now underway, following the successful launch of the Intuitive Machines-1 (IM-1) mission in the early morning hours of Thursday.
IM-1 is now on a journey to reach the Moon on February 22, aiming to place a lander dubbed Odysseus on the surface of Earth’s natural satellite. SpaceX attempted a second launch of its Starship rocket on Saturday morning. The rocket reached space for the first time today, but its Super Heavy booster, which propelled it to space, exploded shortly after separation from the rocket. On Saturday, SpaceX will attempt a new flight test of Starship, the most powerful rocket in the world.
Their first test, conducted on April 20 of this year, saw Starship reach an altitude of 24 miles over the Gulf of Mexico, just offshore of the company’s “Starbase” launch facility in Boca Chica, Texas. But the launch ended just four minutes after ignition, when Starship veered off course and began to tumble.
