Fortunately for the professional teams who train there, they are gearing up for the Giro, so you didn't embaress them on the Coll de Soller[/quote] It was fabulous, thank you. Hitting my 40s last year and a lack of cycling meant my fitness was awful so I stayed south, pretty flat, so even if there were any pro teams they would absolutely not have been embarrassed by me ;) though managed to get at least 80km i ..read more

Decent list, though my concern it is a mixed bag of behaviours (1-3) and causes (4). Depends what you're after really - trying to find the cause or listing for a better word, symptoms. For "symptoms" I've have your 3 plus: Inability to deal with any reasonable degree of risk Inability to deal with owners without financial means Helplessness in ethically challenging cases where the best interests of the animal are subsumed by owner interests Time-poor jobs, working with colleagues who are equally inexperienced or days filled with pointless activities (e.g. 6m health checks) so that learning pot ..read more

Matthew John Makepeace has been struck off by the RCVS Disciplinary Committee after a conviction for assaulting his ex-partner. Mr Makepeace faced five charges. The first charge was that in 2022 Mr Makepeace was convicted at Scarborough Magistrates Court of assaulting by beating his ex-partner. He was sentenced to a community order and a curfew order and was ordered to pay a £95 surcharge and £85 in costs. It was alleged that the conviction rendered him unfit to practise as a veterinary surgeon. The second was that in August 2022, Mr Makepeace submitted a character reference which purported to ..read more

Blog Post: New product to help with canine anal gland impaction
VetSurgeon Forums

Animalcare has launched ProGlan, a tasty soft chew designed to support faecal consistency and help anal glands in dogs empty naturally. Apparently, anal gland impaction is the fifth most common reason for owners to take their dog to the vets 1 , and of course manual expression of impacted anal glands is unpleasant for everyone. It also doesn’t address the underlying causes, such as poor stool consistency. ProGlan contains pumpkin seeds and apple pectin, both sources of fibre to bulk out stools and increase faecal mass. The product also contains Bacillus velezensisi (DSM 15544), a probiotic reg ..read more

Forum Post: What do you think would have the BIGGEST positive impact on the profession?
VetSurgeon Forums

I want to pick up on some of the ideas at the top of this thread - ie seeing whether VetSurgeon and its members can help start driving some positive change. But the current state of the profession is such a multifaceted problem, its hard to know where to start. I think the only way to do it is to ask you, via survey, where I should go with this. First, the issues which I think are having the biggest negative impact on the profession (both in terms of upward costs, but also I think, in job satisfaction for GPs). Gold standard mentality (I know the term is now frowned on, but the mentality persi ..read more
