Born This Way?
Growing in Grace
by James Williams

A common argument used to justify certain lifestyles or behaviors is to say “I was born this way.” Many who struggle with anger issues testify that they’ve done so from a young age. Those who constantly struggle with anxiety say that’s just their personality. People who claim to be homosexual or transgender often say they’ve known since they were young. I’ve recently heard stories where pedophiles claim their attractions are natural to who they are and therefore should be accepted. The argument is that since they’ve been born with these desires, they must be natural and right. If God does all ..read more

A collection of links to encourage your growth in grace! The Internal Contradiction in Transgender Theories “He believes one of the transgender movement’s most remarkable achievements has been to conceal the internal division at the heart of gender theory. ‘There is no single trans narrative,’ he says. There are two, ‘wholly incompatible and mutually destructive, which have somehow been fused into a single, all-conquering cause.'” The Parenting Book Too Few Parents Read “And yet I believe that many parents fail to read the parenting book that could make the biggest difference to their lives a ..read more

We all make mistakes. It’s a normal part of life for humans in a fallen state living in a cursed world. Some mistakes seem to have little noticeable consequences, while others affect everything and everyone around us. What do you to do when your sin brings about irreversible consequences? What happens when there are effects from a sinful choice that you have to live with for a time? Perhaps you made a major life choice like a move or job change without listening to the Lord through prayer and wise counsel…then it quickly becomes apparent that you made the wrong choice but can’t change it imm ..read more

A collection of links to encourage your growth in grace on this cold day: Love the Ones Who Drive You Crazy “While obviously there are boundaries to our unity—we would not tolerate differences in the core doctrines of the Christian faith—we are to see other differences as opportunities to display the glory of God by loving each other despite them, through them, and even because of them. ” 10 Things You Should Know About Predestination “Sometimes Christians passionately disagree with each other about predestination. But it is pitiful how we can take a Bible teaching that should result in humil ..read more

2024 Bible Reading Plans
Growing in Grace
by James Williams

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” This quote, commonly attributed to Benjamin Franklin, is applicable in many areas of life. I believe one of those areas is our Bible reading plan. Many good New Year’s resolutions to read Scripture have failed because of lack of direction. You may choose to read through the whole Bible in a year or two, or you may strive to focus in on either the Old or New Testament. Others may tackle a single book of the Bible to read and study throughout the year. Whatever you decide, I would encourage you to find a plan and discipline yourself to stick to i ..read more

Thankful In All Circumstances
Growing in Grace

It’s hard to believe that it’s already Thanksgiving! This Thursday we’ll set aside time to gather with family and friends to feast and give thanks. As Christians, we give thanks to God for all his blessings in our life. However, sometimes it can feel forced, can’t it? Sometimes we go through a difficult time or experience grief and don’t feel thankful. We look out in the world and see bloodshed and hate, abuse and harm, wars and threats of war and wonder what there is to be thankful about. We fear for our future and the future of our children and grandchildren. But, we know what Scripture say ..read more

A collection of links to encourage your growth in grace: Three Years Later: What I Miss Most “Today, though, I sure do miss him. I miss having someone who loved me in that unique way a son loves his father, and I miss having someone to love in that unique way a father loves a son. There are many kinds of love, of course, but that father-son bond is sweet, strong, and true. It’s no better than a father-daughter bond. But it’s different. Irreplaceable.” Can We Limit God by Our Free Will? “Rather than bowing to him as the sovereign Lord who will do all his pleasure, working all things according ..read more

Healing Words or Sword Thrusts?
Growing in Grace

In the beginning was darkness . . . then God spoke. He stretched out the heavens like an artist preparing his canvas, then draped them with the sun, moon, and stars to light the earth. He spoke and the oceans gathered so the dry land could surface. At his command, plants and trees sprang from the earth like obedient soldiers waiting for orders. He molded dust into shape and breathed into its nostrils, making it come alive. Such is the power of God’s word. Even now, the reason the earth continues to revolve around the sun, the reason each atom remains in its proper place, and th ..read more
