Does the term “personal ministry” make sense to you? One simple test is to determine whether you can explain personal ministry to other followers of Jesus. Most importantly, can you do this in a way that makes it sound like something they can do themselves? Choosing to invest your time and energy in helping someone else grow as a Christian is a step of faith. If you are at the point of wanting to help someone else develop a personal ministry, this post is for you. But if you’re still deciding whether you could commit to helping someone else in that way, this post will help you too. Perhaps you ..read more

How will you make the most of quarantine?

What does the coronavirus lockdown, quarantine or whatever you’re calling it, sound like where you are? That’s right, I said sound. Here’s what it sounds like in my home. One minute my children are giggling. The next they’re fighting. Give us ten minutes, and you’ll hear tears. For me, these are the familiar sounds of life during the coronavirus pandemic. Our bad habits are harder to hide in the environment of a quarantine. Yet our healthy habits can keep us afloat now that the only place to go is within the four walls of our homes. How are you thinking about the current situation? Maybe you s ..read more

Who else wants Easter to matter more to people this year?

This is a surreal time for people all over the world. We are living through a sudden break from much of our normal life. It’s a time of social, economic and physical crisis. And the relational connections we rely on are either gone or have moved to video-calling platforms. Because of this, people are searching for answers. They have old questions they’ve put off asking, and new questions they’ve never asked before. As Christians, we’ve asked those questions and found answers in Jesus Christ. You may be asking your questions again in a deeper way. But your life with God provides you with a fram ..read more

COVID-19: How will you connect in a time of self-isolation?
MissionHub

Self-isolation. Social distancing. I understood these terms without needing an explanation. But I’m not sure I heard them before the coronavirus crisis began. Now I hear daily of people I know cutting themselves off from everyday life because of possible coronavirus symptoms. Yesterday that was my sister and a police officer friend in my city. Isolation — self-imposed or not — fundamentally changes the way we think, feel and behave as humans. Introverts and extroverts are both designed for relationship. The coronavirus is disrupting the way we normally conduct relationships, and on a global sc ..read more

3 steps for getting the most out of MissionHub

If you asked 100 adults “Do you wish you exercised more?” how many would you expect to say yes? 75? 90? 100? I have no statistics, but my gut tells me the majority of Americans share this basic desire. Many successfully follow through on their aspirations. But for others it remains a desire that fails to become their lived experience. You would probably find a similar pattern if you asked 100 Christians “Do you wish you talked about Jesus more often with the people in your life?” The desire is there, but the follow-through is difficult. Home workout devices and programs — Peloton, Mirror, Beac ..read more

3 reasons we fear talking about Jesus in the workplace
MissionHub

If you are looking for reasons not to talk about Jesus in your workplace, there are plenty. And to be fair, many of them sound reasonable. Here are a few I have thought myself or heard from others: My boss is really anti-religion and it will make things really difficult for me. None of my colleagues are Christian and I fear being isolated. People in my workplace think Christians are fundamentalist and homophobic. When I told someone at work I am a Christian he presumed I judged his lifestyle choices. I am afraid I cannot defend my beliefs well enough if I get into a discussion about them. Ma ..read more

What is a true step of faith?
MissionHub
by ivan.cortes@cru.org

Taking a step of faith is a phrase you hear in multiple contexts. Many of them have little or nothing to do with faith in the spiritual sense. If you use the MissionHub app or read our blog you know we talk a lot about steps of faith. So it is worth being really clear about what we think a true step of faith is, and just as crucially, what it is not. In a previous blog we tackled a question we are often asked: Does taking a step of faith have to be scary? So in this post we want to show you what a step of faith truly is for a MissionHub user, or for anyone who wants to trust God in trying ..read more

How people really want to talk about Jesus
MissionHub

Everyone should be able to talk about their hopes and dreams and the things they care about. That sounds reasonable, right? In our culture that is something most of us take for granted. But how do people think and feel about talking about Jesus? I hear an increasing number of Christians these days expressing the belief that they are meeting less and less people in everyday life who are interested in discussing God, faith or spirituality. But is this something we know for sure, or is it just an assumption? Do we really know if people want to talk about Jesus? And if some of them do, what do we ..read more

Why every step of faith makes a difference
MissionHub

Steps of faith — big or small — are part of God’s process in people’s lives. But sometimes we are too focused on an individual step of faith, and on whether or not we see it making a difference. We fail to see God’s process for bringing about change. Do you ever feel like the steps of faith you are taking are not producing the results you desire? In this post we explore why we feel that way and how to change our perspective so we have more to celebrate, and less to complain about. Remember where fruit really comes from We have so many resources right at our fingertips. If you ask somebody what ..read more

How to make a habit of taking the steps of faith you want to

Neil Armstrong was a man who knew about making a habit of taking steps of faith. As the first man on the moon he could only imagine what the lunar surface felt like… until he stepped onto it. Armstrong did a number of things I think Christians can learn from before taking his “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” So, let’s assume for a moment that you are someone wanting to form the habit of taking steps of faith with the people you live, work or play alongside in your everyday life. What can we learn from the world’s most famous astronaut? Do not wait for a step to choose you ..read more
