An open letter to my Mother, on her special day

Today marks 52 years of planet earth being blessed with the presence of such a strong, caring, thoughtful, bighearted, compassionate and gentle woman, who I am so deeply blessed to call Mother. Mom, I can’t imagine life without you. Needless to say, without you I wouldn’t be where I am today (literally- giggle).  You’ve always been an outstanding role model who has shown me an infinite amount of love and understanding; and even though I’m a grown, 30-year old woman now, your love and understanding never ceases to exist. You, mom, never cease to amaze me, and for that I want to say Thank you ..read more

Sweet, sweet words on my sister’s special day

It’s not every day that your sister asks you to say a speech at her wedding. No pressure right? Being such a momentous and rare occasion to express your feelings in front of over 100 people obviously has to be perfect. From the time I knew I’d be showering her wedding with my sweet, sweet words, I started doing my research. Thankfully google gave me tons of advice, from how slowly to speak, how to stand and be composed, and finally to “just speaking from the heart”. Helpful? I think not! Writing a speech for someone’s momentous occasion, especially as someone as special as a sister can par ..read more

Single at 30. Why it’s so hard and great at the same time

So here I am, thirty, flirty and thriving, or am I? I just turned three times ten this year. No biggie right? Unlike previous birthdays where I’d get super excited and plan the day, my 30th birthday planning did not transpire. For what reason you might ask? Well, I just didn’t want it to happen!  I didn’t want the day to come, PERIOD! With turning 30 came the notion of “being single and thirty”. Those of you who are single and thirty, like me, probably fully understand this notion. And YES, it is a “thing”….and a complete catch 22! Thirty is the age where Gen Z’s view me as “traffi ..read more

Life is too short for boring hair

I’ve always been the type to take matters into my own hands. And by matters I mean my hair. I know…. what kind of “girl” am I, right? Little did I know that maintenance at a professional salon would be a life changing experience. Ofcorse I’ve been to salons, but there’s a huge difference between a professional salon and a salon. Spot the difference. In my lifetime I’ve been to a number of these salons and didn’t actually realise that the products that they used weren’t professional. Or if they were, which happened on the odd occasion, they weren’t being used correctly. I also mainta ..read more

The purpose of life is right in front of you

I appreciate that I have met a bunch of contrasting people in my life. Each played a monumental role in molding me into the person I am today. I’ve met people who have a relaxed outlook on life and others who enjoy the whirl and hustle that comes with it. I have noticed how some have a very figured out work life balance, while others tend to focus a bit less on work and more on family time. To me, none of these lifestyles are correct nor incorrect. Sure I agree more with the relaxed outlook on life with a stronger focus on family, but everyone is different.  What I think actually matters the m ..read more

An open letter to my ex

Before you continue and get lost in a pile of nonsensical words, let me fill you in on my previous relationship. I was in a very committed relationship for 5 years to be exact. I met (let’s call him “Jimmy” for the sake of this blog post), 3 months before my younger brother passed away in 2012.  Apart from my family, he was my cornerstone throughout this tragic time in my life. As much as you may think it sounds dumb, I felt comforted by the fact that my brother knew him and actually liked him to an extent, and I didn’t want to let that go. As with all relationships, there were peaks a ..read more

My experience on the Bachelor South Africa- Part 2

I wouldn’t recommend going on a show like the Bachelor if you don’t have a thick skin. As much as my experience was short lived, I’m a firm believer in the notion that with every negative comes a positive. Being in the limelight and exposing myself to a world dominated by the internet and particularly social media allowed me to become subject to so many people’s opinions. Although positive feedback was greatly received there will always be a few tyrants who enjoy throwing shade. However, at the end, it all boils down to being okay with who you are, being self-assured and confident and I’d like ..read more
