The Illusion of Pretty Distractions

I'm really blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world (Perth, Western Australia). We have gorgeous beaches, lots of lovely places to explore and it’s a clean, safe part of the world. This photo (above) of one of our amazing beaches was taken just down the road from a house that Hubby and I were trying to build... Isn’t it lovely? The water looks so inviting and I could just sit and reflect on the clean, white sand for hours (wearing an SPF 50+ of course, ‘coz the Aussie sun isn’t so fond of my pale skin!) And why were we trying to build there, of all places? Because it was going t ..read more

As women of God...

As women of God, we must be switched on to the traps of the world. Sisters, I say this with love - but the world isn’t exactly set up for a Christian gal to thrive. To view this, open any magazine. Tune in to any gossip-filled conversation. Watch any movie. Walk past any men’s locker room…. you’ll see it. Women defined by sex appeal. Compartmentalised, just a series of ‘bits’ to be lusted over, dissected, criticised, obsessed over, fantasised about and edited until they’re just right. And it’s not just non-Christian men that buy into this definition of women. Even marketing by women, for wom ..read more

Moving from Lack to Abundance

I’m a very privileged upper-middle class woman. Life is good for me and even when things have been tough, I’m incredibly fortunate to have the life that I do. (Bear with me… I’m not just going to bang on about how good my life is!)I was raised by amazing parents who provided (and still help provide) for my every need - emotional, mental, financial, physical… I was cared for. And loved. And I knew it. I went to a good school. Got good grades. Had every opportunity to pursue my interests. Was never berated or belittled, was always uplifted and encouraged. Attended university, supported entirely ..read more

#1. It’s okay to have bad days. Every day may not feel overwhelmingly good, but there’s something good in every day (even if the only good thing is that you got out of bed and ate breakfast, you’re still doing well!). And, every day - even the hardest of days - brings opportunity to learn, do better and improve, lean on God and spotlight where we’ve been going astray. It’s all about finding that silver lining of opportunity and pressing forward in faith, even when all that you see by sight feels hopeless. #2. Change is constant, and not everything is meant to stay in your life. Change is scary ..read more

Drop The Mask

Today, I want to ask you all to take off your mask.I’m not talking about a literal mask – instead, I’m referring to the emotional masks that we all wear. Because on top of our makeup lies a front – an exterior projection of how we want the world to see us; a personality layer that we add on top of the true version of ourselves to fit certain situations. Our masks represent the edited and accentuated versions of ourselves, the selves that we prefer to show to others – often concealing the parts of ourselves that we don’t wish to display. We all do it.And for a lot of the time, we may not even re ..read more

The Comparison Trap

We have all used comparison in negative ways on occasion. We’re programmed to according to the ways of our society and culture, sadly. Society constantly throws at us ways in which to compare ourselves to others, and it’s hard to ignore it. Comparison is a sort of benchmarking tool and let’s face it, we all love a sticky-beak at the lives and work of others sometimes. The dangerous thing about comparison is that we don’t even realise how dangerous can be. And it’s quite easy to fall into the trap of thinking that your comparison isn’t harmful, and that comparing yourself to others doesn’t really ..read more

"You've Changed!"

“You’ve changed!”It’s something that most of us have heard at some point in our lives, usually from a former friend or someone who used to be much closer to us than they currently are. Whoever says this to you usually means to imply that they liked the “old” you better. So, now what?Something like this can be abrasive to hear – especially coming from someone that we once considered ourselves close to. And if you’ve been doing special work to make some positive changes in your life to make yourself a healthier and happier person, it can come as quite a shock to hear someone being so unsupportive ..read more
