Does heaven seem silent?
The April Journal
by Boma

Sometimes you would pray and heaven would seem silent. You might think the heavens are shut to you as your prayers seem to bounce back off the walls and ceiling of your confined space. “Where are you, Lord?” You would cry out in desperation, “Do you see me? Do you hear me?” I could tell you what you already know, that God sees you and hears you, but when your circumstances contend with this truth I understand why you might not want to hear it now. But it is true. Heaven is not silent to your prayers, child of God. I do not know why you do not see God at this time but I can tell you that He is ..read more

What are you looking for?
The April Journal

What are you looking for? What do you need? When you scroll through social media mindlessly, and surf the internet endlessly, what do you hope to find? What are you giving up in order to indulge this habit? Does it satisfy? Does it serve the purpose you envision? Usually, it doesn’t. You should turn to God when you need help with anything, and let Him guide you to the answers and solutions you need. Your first recourse should not be the World Wide Web. Whatever the need, God can meet it. He did it in the days before phones, and computers, and technology. He would do it again if we let Him. He ..read more

The illusion of choice
The April Journal

Freedom. Power. Room…. Tell me what you seek. Where are you headed? What restraints confront you? And why do you keep going? There is a way that seems right to a man but its end is the way of death. Let me tell you, it is a lie that your life is yours to live as you please… well, unless you’ve not been redeemed. You see, the whole world is sold, lost, and on the brink of destruction. You were born into the chaos and, if you stop long enough to catch your breath, you will recognize the reality and see the fate of this existence. There is no hope in this world…. Tell me, Do you have the freedom ..read more

The gift of motherhood

“Do you know what this is, Miss?” I was visiting my friend’s mother at a home for the elderly when another resident stopped me. I groaned inwardly, realizing my schedule was about to be thrown off kilter. I could make an excuse and be on my way already, but something in her eyes drew me in and compelled me to stop. It was a strange mix of fear, uncertainty, regret, hope, and resignation. I checked the time and decided I could spare ten minutes. The truth is, I didn’t stand a chance! Her eyes told me to take a break from life. “Do you know what this is, Miss?” I took the parcel she held out. I ..read more

Dear Adanna
The April Journal
by Boma

Dear Adanna, I do not write to you because I have the answers you seek. I only hope to point you in the way that has brought me to this path I travel now. If you knew me, you’d know it’s like coming from night to day — from darkness to light. Life is hard, Adanna (you should be wary of anyone who tells you otherwise). So , although I might not really appreciate the details or extent of your suffering so that I can say with honesty that I know what you’re going through, I know that, more often than not, everyone you meet is fighting some battle. And, depending on your peculiar circumstance or s ..read more

What is this confusion?
The April Journal

And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. (1 Kings 18:21) It’s a common notion but it’s true, the majority is not always right. Do you feel pulled in opposite directions? Are you struggling with truth you already know? Swimming against the tide is not always easy, but it’s also not impossible. The problem with trying to go in opposite directions when you travel is that you stall progress. You can’t get anywhere if you change directions everytime be ..read more

The danger in manifesting
The April Journal
by Boma

We’ve been told that unless we’ve seen the real article, it might be hard to tell that what we have is fake. It’s true. It is also true that one sure way of combating the proliferation of imitated products is to flood the market, or space, with the genuine article. Until you’ve seen faith, you might confuse it with manifesting. But it is not. When people manifest, what do they hope for? They expect the universe, or some kind of force to bring to reality things that they’ve imagined and act on as they have opportunity. Biblical faith is placed in God alone. It is the substance of things hoped f ..read more

Remember the number, three

(Based on true stories) ***** One. Two. Three. How will she ever forget? On this side of her decision, it’s hard to tell what she’s in search of this time, seated across from the preacher again. The first time, it was almost as if she had been seeking some kind of blessing or reassurance. The price for her choice would be the life of her child. Now, what did she seek? Redemption? The preacher had been a voice for the child, begging, praying, pointing to other paths…. In a matter of days, one, two, and then a third dead child came from her. She’d been carrying three children and had not been aw ..read more

Sunday worship: Come let us join our cheerful songs
The April Journal
by Boma
1y ago
1. Come, let us join our cheerful songs with angels round the throne; ten thousand thousand are their tongues, but all their joys are one. 2. ‘Worthy the Lamb that died,’ they cry, ‘to be exalted thus’; ‘Worthy the Lamb,’ our lips reply, ‘for he was slain for us.’ 3. Jesus is worthy to receive honour and power divine; and blessings, more than we can give, be, Lord, for ever thine. 4. Let all that dwell above the sky, and air, and earth, and seas, conspire to lift thy glories high, and speak thine endless praise. 5. The whole creation joins in one to bless the sacred name of him that sits upon ..read more
