A rejection is never a failure, only a re-direction. The Founder and CEO of Amazon, Jeffrey Preston Bezos (the world knows him as Jeff Bezos), is currently the richest man in the world, with an amazing net worth of $182 billion. This self-made 56-year-old gathered his wealth mainly from his base salary as Amazon’s CEO and also a range of other compensations. In 2019, Bezos received a base salary of $81,840 and received $1.6 million in the form of other compensations. Hence, his annual income accumulated to approximately $1.7 million, making him far richer than Bill Gates and the Facebook Fou ..read more

PMS Survival 101
A Brown Girl's Diary

'Dysmenorrhea' or how we commonly call it - menstrual cramps, are throbbing or cramping pains in the lower abdomen. For some (lucky) women, the discomfort is merely annoying. For others (like me), menstrual cramps can be severe enough to interfere with everyday activities. Our monthly battle includes throbbing or cramping pain in the lower abdomen that can be intense; pain that starts 1 to 3 days before period, peaks 24 hours after the onset of period and subsides in 2 to 3 day; dull, continuous ache; and pain that radiates to to the lower back and thighs. As if the above are not enough, some ..read more

SURVIVAL IS VITAL
A Brown Girl's Diary

I honestly do not feel that it is necessary to even explain what the COVID-19 pandemic is all about or what is the current state of affairs, now. It has been almost two weeks since the Movement Control Order was declared in Malaysia, and our Prime Minister recently announced that it is going to be extended to two more weeks. I've been receiving texts from friends saying that they're bored, feeling useless, getting depressed and so on. I have been feeling the same too, despite being a person who rarely goes out so I cannot imagine how it would be like for those who have always been out an ..read more

FEMINISM - What do you know?
A Brown Girl's Diary

Many think feminism is a man-hating movement. It is not. It is a fight for equality. Feminism is about giving equal access and opportunities in education and employment for both men and women. Feminism earned itself negative press when the bra burning incident happened, though it was about liberation. Feminism doesn't fight men, it fights patriarchy. To me, feminism simply means, an advocacy that emphasizes on equality regardless of gender. To grant an individual the rights that he/she truly deserves. Feminism at its core is about equality of men and women, not “sameness.” It’s ..read more

GROWTH - Blessing or Burden?
A Brown Girl's Diary

What I've come to realize recently is that every stage of Life is being perceived through negative lens. Advancement in Life, instead of being embraced, has been customized to be an oppression.  Starting from school, to college, to work, to getting married, to having children, to basically anything that SIGNIFIES GROWTH.  Yes, that is how I see it. Every step forward is the mark of growth for any individual who is striving to live a quality life. I read somewhere - Working hard for something we don't care about is stress; working hard for something we love is called passion. And I c ..read more

The Magic of 2019
A Brown Girl's Diary

2019 has put me through a lot, but it was also the year in which I finally understood what I have been trying to practice for almost three years.  For over a year, I have been trying to secure a job but it was all to no avail. Hundreds of applications yet, it all ended in dead-ends. Efforts to find an income all went down the drain. Life seemed like a huge mess, and I was so angry at myself because I knew that it could have been different had I made the 'right' choices in the past.  Fast forward to today, I am happily making a living out of what I love doing the most - writing. I l ..read more

Human trafficking is when the traffickers sell humans for various illegal purposes. THE THREE PILLARS OF A COUNTRY
A Brown Girl's Diary

Judiciary Legislature Executive These are the three pillars or organs of a government, which supposedly should operate independent of each other, which basically means that there should be no overlapping or conflict of interests in carrying out their duties. The Judiciary, as many of us think, is NOT the law-making body. The Judiciary, in theory, interprets and applies the law to the cases that comes before the court. The reason I mentioned `in theory` is because, according to the rule of law, judges do not create law but merely adhere to th ..read more

Origin of Malaysian Law
A Brown Girl's Diary

Much of Malaysia's history is related to The Great Britain, thanks to their early colonization in Malaya years ago. The British, who had ruled Malaya over 150 years, left a greater impact on the Malayan law in comparison to the Portuguese and the Dutch.  The modern Malaysian Laws were composed of laws from three periods - pre-war law, post-war law, and post-independence law. Pre-war law was made during the decentralization of the Malay States, when the states were divided into 3 groups -  > Straits Settlement (Penang, Malacca, Singapore);  > Federated Malay ..read more
