Hey guys! We made a video, our first! We’re not very expert at this video gig so LOTS of bloopers (find them at the end!) but fortunately we do know a bit about plants so we thought we’d talk about gardening during lock down as we’ve been in our garden planting seeds and repotting our house plants. With no non-essential travel allowed to go out and restock we thought we’d share some of our tips for making do with what we can find around the house (mostly out of the rubbish bin!). PlantSwap

A desperately over watered succulent that didn’t make it after over-watering Knowing when to water your houseplant can be surprisingly confusing and fraught with difficultly. And anxiety about under-watering often leads to plants dying tragically early deaths at the hands of over-loving, over-watering plant parents! When to water your plant: On a schedule? At the other end of the spectrum if you’ve had a plant die from not being watered then you might think that watering on a schedule might help. But sadly you’d be wrong! It’s not that simple… Plants are fussy little divas and water ..read more

The world’s bestselling book on house plants
PlantSwap

“The world’s best-selling book on indoor plants”Although I’ll admit that I’m the first to grab my phone to Google something I want to know about one of my newly acquired houseplants; such as ‘How do I look after my birds nest fern?’ or ‘what is wrong with my tradescantia?”. I do also love an informative book to browse through or look things up. So I thought I’d recommend some of our favourites here at PlantSwap. My mum was a very gifted plantswoman and garden designer (totally amateur), but she never really liked house plants, and so although I inherited a number of gardening books from h ..read more

How to identify your mystery plant!
PlantSwap

Congratulations you have a new plant! But what sort of plant is it and how can you find out…? It may be from plant swap, a gift, a rescue or it was simply unlabelled at the shop. You may not be that bothered but knowing what it is will help you keep it alive and thriving. Why it’s good to identify your plant… Like pets there is not a one size fits all approach…..feed your dog rabbit food and he’ll soon keel over and vice versa! Plants have very specific needs and requirements. Those aren’t usually difficult to meet but if you don’t know what they are then you’ve not got much chance of ..read more

It’s been a rather bonkers couple of weeks for both Fay and Sarah, and for PlantSwap in general – we’ve become minor media darlings! I thought it might be a good idea to give you all an update, and give you a chance to catch up if you’ve missed anything. Firstly, Fay and I were excited to be asked to take part in BBC Radio Sheffield’s Monday Night Social programme with Kelly-Anne. Together with Dave from Kelham Island Books and Music and the lovely Rose from Sheffield Green Estates; we spent a completely chaotic, funny and enjoyable two hours discussing everything from roller derby, our ..read more

24 November at Hagglers Corner Sheffield Well done to everyone who batted through football crowds to get here today for PlantSwap 13. When we agreed with the venue to move the date we had no idea that it would clash with the Sheffield United vs Manchester United match taking place less than half a mile away. It was lovely to see people chatting and getting to know new people and sharing their planty knowledge. Lots of new faces, familiar friends and an unexpected visitor who brought his home with him! We’d love to know what you enjoy most about plant swap ..read more
