"What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? Matthew 18:12 NIVThis scripture has been resonating in my spirit all morning. It's from my favorite book in the bible and is one of my favorite parables. It is speaking to me so strongly, because of the revelation I have had of how far I wandered in 2018.I started the year off strong in my walk with God... But then I got tested more than ever before. I got distracted. I even failed some of those tests, which has led me to ..read more

I have wanted to venture into fashion blogging for some time now... but graduate school is a real haze. Anyway, I got cute this past weekend for brunch and decided this outfit and these pictures were blog worthy! I'm not sure where the exact inspiration for this outfit came from; tying this shirt/dress the way I did is completely out of my comfort zone but in 2018, I wanted to experiment more with my style. So I got this shirt/dress from Zaraon clearance for $15... I had to get it because I knew it was versatile. & God bless their seasonal sales because this piece was originally $49.(Fun F ..read more

Lets Talk Mental Health: Depression

Millennials are more open about our personal lives than previous generations, and therefore, are opening up about our battles with mental health more and more. Yay us! We’re sharing our stories and creating environments that break the negative stigma associated with discussing things like depression; something I don’t think society has truly seen before. A little over 13% of the U.S. identify as Black/African-American. Of those, 16% have a diagnosable mental illness. (United States Census Buraeu, 2014). That’s 6.8 million black people country wide. Only ¼ of African Americans seek mental healt ..read more

According to Dr. Google, Self-Care is referred to as activities and practices that we can engage in on a regular basis to reduce stress to maintain and enhance our short- and long-term health and well-being.I’d like to simplify that definition by defining it as intentionally taking the time out to do you.Between world events like Hurricane Harvey & Irma, the DACA elimination, record-breaking mass shootings, and the tales of 45…… To personal life events such as completing the second half of my Masters degree, signing up and interviewing for Practicum sites, volunteering in different areas ..read more

Getting Closer to God: The Basics

This year I sought out to purposefully cultivate a deep relationship with God. I was so lost in life: lost in purpose, lost in my finances, lost in my relationships. I had no where else to turn, knowing that all of my answers relied in this one sacred partnership. It’s easier said than done andit takes time. But ten months later, God has showed up and showed out on my behalf in so many ways and i'm sure it's because of my dedication to building this relationship with Him.I started with praying to God that our relationship grow stronger and stronger and in due time, just that happened. I’d like ..read more

So, it’s almost been a month since Jay-Z’s 13th studio album, 4:44, dropped exclusively on Tidal, and hip-hop fans have been in a frenzy ever since. Critically acclaimed as the response to his wife’s Lemonade, Jigga acknowledges and apologizes for the mistakes he has made in his marriage, but the album goes so much deeper. In addition to the clear confrontment of infidelity and racial inequality, there’s an overarching theme of generational wealth and how America’s system has failed to let African-Americans in on the keys to achieve it.“Generational Wealth: That’s the key / My parent’s ain’t h ..read more

So here I am: approximately 14 months post-undergrad, unemployed, and on the other side of the United States from everyone I know, in a graduate program, praying to my heavenly Father that i've made the right decision. Graduation is and should always be a joyous moment in every student’s life, but I also feel as though people don't talk about the anxieties and sometimes depression that may come along with it.During my entire academic tenure, i've been heavily involved in extracurriculars and an all around social butterfly… then I moved to California. I remember being ecstatic about taking this ..read more

In this post I have some blog entries for a Professional Development online class I took that I wanted to explore more in my free time. September 9, 2016What fascinates me most about human behavior is the key question of what drives a certain individual to do the things that they do; whether it be in a good or bad direction. I’ve always enjoyed observing people and coming to inferences about their behavior patterns.I believe every single being has something that makes them tick and look forward to each day; their drive. For example, a student may look forward to their classes or assignments, a ..read more
