I recently went to KitTea Cafe in San Francisco and tried my best to entertain the cats with my yo-yo skills. Here’s what happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbryOUI8Qv4

I’m hosting another yo-yo meetup in San Francisco on New Year’s Eve. We’ll be outdoors at Yerba Buena Gardens from 2-4pm on December 31st, 2023, would love for you to join us. If there is some rain, we’ll probably move to the nearby Metreon. I hope to see you there!

I’ve recently released a new yo-yo called the Populist, which meant it was time to make another yo-yo video. This one was shot around the Mission District in San Francisco. It’s been really windy here lately, so I shot most of these clips in the early morning, which gives the video a really moody/foggy feel. I thought that paired nicely with the song by Benjamin Mørk. Enjoy!
I also shot some behind the scenes footage with more details about the yo-yo.

I’m proud to say my newest yo-yo video is out now. You can watch it here:
The video features an original soundtrack and tricks performed on a modern responsive yo-yo with a counterweight. I’m using a Doc Pop edition The Thing yo-yo for the entire video.
This video was shot entirely on Sanchez Street, one of my favorite spaces in San Francisco. It was edited by Edition Yo-Yos. Watch our behind the scenes video about Slow Streets here:

The Mini-Panzer is the smallest unresponsive yo-yo in history. It’s machined in brass, but available with gold or silver plating. It is .7″ tall, weighs 21.5 grams, and has the smallest bearing you’ve ever seen.
This video isn’t sponsored content, I just thought it was a cool yo-yo. I bought mine from YoYoExpert, but I think Yo-Yo Store Rewind has some too. Available on some sites here:
Spingear
YoYoStore Rewind
YoYoExpert
It’s worth noting that B!ST made an EVEN SMALLER yo-yo back in 2012, but his appears to be responsive. I don’t think it ever made it to the market either, but it looks a ..read more

When I used to work at a yo-yo kiosk, I used to prank my co-workers with these yo-yo magic tricks. I had been meaning to film them for years, but it wasn’t until I heard this funny episode of the 2.0 podcast that I finally got around to filming it. I used a short audio clip from that podcast in part one of my yo-yo magic trick videos.
See if you can figure out how I did them:
“Although magic and yo-yos are impressive on their own, they could benefit from combining…”
Here’s a magic trick that will only impress other yo-yoers.
Hints:
There is no editing or post production used in these trick ..read more

Emoji are not displaying correctly in this post. For a better experience, read this article on https://doctorpopular.com/why-does-midjourney-create-beautiful-art-when-i-use-the-yo-yo-emoji/
Y’all know me, right? So you know, when I got access to generative art tools like Dalle 2 and Midjourney, the first thing I tried using as a prompt was the word “yo-yo”. That’s a no-brainer, and you may have already seen my video about it.
Using AI to reimagine yo-yo tricks
While making that video, I had a strange realization that anytime I used the ? (yo-yo emoji), I’d get a beautiful fantasy landscape t ..read more

Happy #NationalDonutDay!
These donut shaped yo-yos were given away at a Dunkin’ Donuts grand opening back in 1948. They are fixed axle with large holes that run through the middle. I asked my friend John Higby to paint on the sprinkles and cream. To be honest, they used to look more like bagels than donuts.

Dr. Strange is an older trick of mine that I thought I should start doing again since there’s a whole Dr. Strange movie happening now.
