Criterion Games is doing a bang-up job of showing off just how tepid war can be. Following a worrying delay and a quiet launch, Battlefield 5‘s new battle royale mode is shaping up to be another mediocre entry in a genre already inundated with competitors. I used to be quite a big fan of the Blizzard collectable card game. I think it came from my love of games like Magic: The Gathering & at one point in my life Yu-Gi-Oh. Hearthstone combined my love of strategy & freedom in a card game without the requirement of finding groups and social interaction. Hearthstone allowed me to choose when I played and if I wanted to play against some friends I could – I could control the engagement. Whether through malice, or a fundamental misunderstanding of basic human relationships, Ubisoft has taken a serious misstep away from player freedom in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: Legacy of the First Blade. Although Risk of Rain 2 had been rumored for quite some time, its release came out of nowhere and the internet was ecstatic.
