So Much Meaning – Volunteer to Warm Your Heart & Soul
Life's Chaos | Raw and Uncut

When I was 13, my dad took me to the homeless shelter to serve food for Thanksgiving. I was mad. I hated being told I “had” to go. He and my mom were humble, very kind, and they wanted the three of us to understand the importance of giving; of time and not necessarily monetary donations. This day allowed me first hand experience working with some of the community’s people in need. Hearing youth and grown people, many alone or with children by their sides, saying that the meal being served was the first thing they had eaten in days. The excitement of seeing a decent amount of food placed on th ..read more

Marriage is Hard Work – I Wouldn’t Change a Thing

Technically I work 3 full time jobs. Career, mom, and wife. I love my life, and all three of my “roles.” I wouldn’t change anything I have struggled with, what I have overcome, things I have celebrated, so much I have learned from, and incredible moments I have shared with many. Most of these moments, I have had my wingman with me. My copilot, my best friend, my husband. We met in February 1996, I was young and so was he. We shared a number of mutual friends, and many of my friends knew his brothers. I saw him on several occasions, but never imagined 23 years later I would be saying he’s stil ..read more

A Week Of Great! Celebrating Life’s Many Blessings
Life's Chaos | Raw and Uncut

It’s not often that I, or many others say I have had a fantastically perfect week. Literally, amazing. I don’t play the lotto, but I bought a ticket because this week has been so fantastic! Seriously though folks, this fam has A LOT of chaos. Celebration is definitely in order for this week. Here we go: Late last week, I received an email from Haltom City, TX. It was a notification that one of my oldest daughter’s photography entries had been selected for the “Sports” category. You see, in late March, she and I set out to capture various “in the moment” pictures around town. Her school had s ..read more

The Tale of Two Job Hunts

In early May, 2017, I received a phone call on a Sunday evening that was completely unexpected. I had been busy planting bushes in our backyard. My daughter ran to bring my phone that was ringing. Looking at my phone’s screen, it was my boss. Odd on a Sunday, but I knew earnings were being released the following week and thought we were going to discuss an early morning Monday meeting and the needs for such. Nope. Not at all. For the first few minutes I listened to a lot about cuts and anticipated layoffs. Still thinking that there would be no way my team would be impacted. I was managing Qual ..read more

The Simplicity Made it Special

Today we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a Christian family, being together is of utmost importance everyday, but even more so on the days celebrating our Lord. Although we are not the best at making it to church each Sunday, we are no less faithful. My children are baptized, we married in a church, and we hold our Lord above all others. Not religious, but quite faithful! This morning, we began our day together with an early showing of the movie “Breakthrough.” As a mom, I cried through the entire 2 hour movie. What an amazing story. So touching, so warm, so ..read more

Animals are Quite Smart – Friends in Good Times and Bad
Life's Chaos | Raw and Uncut

Growing up, we didn’t have animals often. My mom didn’t care much for their messes and no one thought cleaning up poop sounded like a fun new chore to add to their list. My sister, who is older than me, brought a cat home once. He didn’t stay a resident for long. She took the cat when she moved out, and he hadn’t been around long prior. I did have two hamsters. We used to put them in their plastic excercise balls and they’d run around for hours. That was pretty cool for an elementary-aged kiddo. I also learned the responsibility of care including cleaning their cages. These creatures, although ..read more

College is Not for Everyone

As I shared on a post yesterday, my oldest daughter and I just attended our district’s college fair. This was the first time I, as her mom, and she as a prospective student, attended such an event. It was very informative and helpful, although I am pretty knowledgeable about the college application process. Again, her plan is to attend community college for 2 years, transitioning after to a 4 year school. Our gaining a solid understanding of the courses to take and how to ensure full credit is not only earned, but also transferred was imperative. We gained that and were able to leave with a w ..read more

You Are Good Enough and We Believe in You Today is a little exciting, sort of bittersweet, and another cause for parenting celebration! Several months back I had a very telling and mature conversation with my daughter. She excitedly proclaimed that she’d figured out what she wants to do after high school. This evening we embark on our first college fair and information session. Let’s go back a bit, a few years, well many years. I’ll start with admitting, very proudly, that I never had children so that I could live vicariously through them. I did not go to Harvard, Yale, or Stanford, and I ne ..read more

I Don’t Smoke and I Shouldn’t Have to Smell it When You Do

Many years ago I kicked the habit of smoking cigarettes. I had been a relatively light to moderate smoker since I was in high school. My friends and I, those who also smoked, would take turns buying and sharing cigarettes. Smoking often in our cars at lunch and when we were out on the town. Many of the people I continued to associate with after high school also smoked. I hate to say this, but I definitely most often smoked to be “cool.” In 2001 I married and within just a few months I was also pregnant. Prior to becoming pregnant, and just after giving birth I still smoked, but only when I wa ..read more

I Didn’t Sign Up For This – The Other Side of Parenting, Both Pets and People
Life's Chaos | Raw and Uncut

As I was tending to the house yesterday, I had an epiphany. During the cleaning of toilets it was as if the sky opened up.  I realized that there’s a completely separate side to parenting, and I mean this in the literal sense. It is felt when parenting both 2 and 4-legged kids, even those with fins. If anyone would have told me that I was signing up to tend to the tail-end needs of living creatures as often as I do, I would have run for the hills. In all seriousness, by the time our child reaches potty-trained stage, we’ve conquered diaper changes thousands of times. We don’t stop cleaning up ..read more
