Published in Beaufort Lifestyle Magazine – September Issue Cherimie Crane Weatherford, owner of SugarBelle, grew up near the water in a small town in Mississippi. After college and a few years of domestic and international travel, a friend suggested she visit a coastal city in South Carolina called Beaufort. Colonel Fred Krum was head of the Marine Corps Family Services during that time and was one of the founding fathers, along with a young Marine drill sergeant. He wanted to promote better relationships between the active military and the private citizens of Beaufort. The Club began meeting on the first Tuesday of the month on Parris Island at the automotive hobby shop. After the meeting, the group members had full use of the facilities. Published in Military Spouse Magazine January 2020 To say Dr. Jill Biden is a busy lady would be an understatement. The wife of former Vice President of the United States Joe Biden, Dr. Biden served as second lady from 2009-2017 during the Obama administration. She has been traveling nonstop since her husband announced his candidacy for president. However, Biden’s efforts go far beyond her husband’s campaign trail. When we spoke in mid-December, Biden was a full-time professor at Northern Virginia Community College. She has since taken a leave. “I’ve been teaching up until last Thursday and ..read more

This is a sponsored post but all opinions are my own. There are many challenges a military spouse faces within this unique lifestyle, but finding a stable career often tops the list.  There needs to be both passion and flexibility especially when the most consistent aspect of this way of life is inconsistency. Popular careers include in-home businesses, healthcare, and computer graphics, but many military spouses turn to teaching. Many spouses may embrace the idea of becoming a teacher, they may not know exactly what is required. So what is it really like to be a teacher, and how doe ..read more

Independent, strong, resilient, respectful: these are just some terms used to describe America’s military brats. Over 1.2 million children in the United States currently live in an active duty military home. Of those 1.2 million, 900,000 will have experienced at least one deployed parent. To honor their commitment and sacrifice, April has been designated as the Month of the Military Child. So, what is it really like to be the child of a service member? I was born and raised in the same home my entire life. My mom still lives there and has since the 70s. My best friends from Kindergarten were ..read more

Phi Phi Leh Island (the set’s location of the movie “The Beach”) Thailand was never really at the top of my list of places I wanted to visit. I knew a little bit about the country from random pictures and movies, but it just never stood out to me until we moved to Japan. Being just a five-hour flight from our home, it quickly jumped the line of places I wanted to visit. Sorry Sydney, Australia…Thailand may have just taken the number one spot as my favorite destination! We started the trip off with a huge mistake-flying during the day. As mentioned in my “Travel with Kids” blog, we try to tak ..read more

Seeing The Great Wall of China has always been high on my bucket list (along with seeing the other six modern wonders of the world). Well, I finally got the chance this past Veteran’s Day weekend. The lobby of Hotel Nikko New Century On Friday, my family boarded a plane headed for Beijing. We booked our trip through a travel agency, and they arranged everything for us (driver, hotel, full itinerary, meals, tickets. etc.). When we arrived, our travel guide, Alice, was waiting for us and took us straight to Hotel Nikko New Century Bejing. Alice spoke English fairly well while our Chinese driver ..read more

Australia is a popular bucket list item for a lot of people, myself included, but it was always in the far off distance. “I want to go to Australia one day,” I had so often said, so when my husband, Jesse, started putting together a summer trip for us, I was beyond ecstatic. Since Sydney is such a big, sought-after area, we decided to spend our full eight days there, and we were so glad we did. We were never at a lack of something to do, and Sydney surpassed any expectations we might have had. In fact, Sydney, Australia took our number 1 spot for favorite destinations (as of now). The best de ..read more
