My hands shook with excitement as I hung up the phone and did a full on happy dance on the middle of the crowded street. I GOT THE INTERVIEW! I could barely get the text out to my boyfriend, I was shaking so much with excitement… and then the interview nerves and anxiety settled in. What questions would I ask in the interview? Raise your hand if you find yourself hitting up social media, daydreaming, or generally wasting your time while you're supposed to be working ?? Don't worry, you're not alone! One survey found that 80% of employees waste time at work on non-related tasks. Like playing sudoku, paying bills, catching up with friends? And with the current state of the world, I'd guess that number is even higher! Truthfully, it's not our fault that we waste this time, the adult attention span lasts for about 20 minutes (we can choose to refocus on the same task after that). It's completely unrealistic to plow thr ..read more

6 Tips To Work Smarter, Not Harder
The Confused Millennial | Career

I LOVE WORKING HARD! … said no one ever. TRUTH: I'd much rather work smarter, not harder. I see so many people running around saying how “busy” they are, but honestly, I don't want to be busy. I don't want to manifest that quality of life for myself. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind rolling up my sleeves and getting dirty, putting in long hours, but IMO, work should be fun. We spend so much of our lives doing it, it should be boosting our mood, elevating ourselves (and society), and moving toward the greater good. When we take the idea of “working hard” it feels like we are automatically ..read more

Honestly, I didn't even know if I'd write a post acknowledging the New Year or reflecting on last year. I can't describe 2019 in one word, but the first word that comes to mind is rollercoaster. The next two are miraculous and beautiful.  Last year kicked off with two of the biggest life changes that most of us go through in our adult lives; all within a 60 day span. We bought a house, then had a baby a just over week later. Seriously, I remember just praying baby girl would come a little past her due date so we could get through the home buying process. It was all so unexpected, but so p ..read more

Monday Mantra: May Your Choices Reflect your Hopes, Not Your Fears – Nelson Mandela  I got an email recently from a reader who is thinking about starting a blog and asked me a few questions. Two of them were far too deep to put in an email for just her so I decided to bring them here. The questions were: How did you overcome that fear [of starting a blog/business]?! How did you become successful and what all did you have to do? Her questions reminded me of another question I get A LOT which is: how did you get over your fear of having a baby? In response to a couple of posts I wrote a cou ..read more

Monday Mantra: Stay In Your Own Lane We've all heard it before; eyes on your own paper, hater blockers on, stay in your own lane. There's a reason this cliche has been said over and over and in a million different ways for decades. It's because it's helpful advice! But just because something is helpful advice, doesn't mean we always listen.  If I'm being completely honest, in the past I always kind of struggled with this concept. Whether it was getting caught up in gossip, meddling in other people's lives, or in work… I had a tendency to drift into everybody else's lane so to speak. I thi ..read more
