April, a month symbolizing renewal and growth, serves as a powerful metaphor for the journey of healing from childhood trauma. It also happens to be my birth month. Happy Birthday to me on the 3rd! I stepped into therapy for the very first time on April 3, 1985. I was five months pregnant with my son that I would soon be placing for adoption and just as the world around was beginning to bloom anew, so too was I and didn’t even realize it. Now, it’s your turn to find the strength to overcome the feelings of being unwanted, unloved, and unplanned. This journey, undoubtedly challenging, carr ..read more

Uncovering Dysfunction in Your Family Unit “A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden.” ~Buddha Family is supposed to be our fortress - the cornerstone of safety, acceptance and validation. However, this isn’t always the case, which creates chaos and dysfunction. Facing unhealthy patterns and freeing ourselves from cycles of toxicity is crucial for our overall health and well-being ..read more

What Happens When Emotional Wounds are Truly Healed?

Have you ever felt like success is slipping through your fingers? Me, too.  Have you ever felt like you can’t seem to get “it” right - whatever “right” is? Me, too.  What if, though, we aren’t actually following our own intuition but what we think we are supposed to do? What if this is the real problem? My therapist told me years ago that trauma cancels out our intuition. That made so much sense to me. The part she left out was how to trust ourselves again. That’s what I’m going to do my best to help you with now.  I remember interviewing at the mall for my first job. My mother ..read more

Are you counting on your future to heal your present?

This time of year is a time of reflection… Who are you? Who do you serve? These two questions always bring me back to my center. Why? Because it’s easy to forget who you are when you are focused on the world outside of you. I’m a person who meditates daily. It’s changed my life. It wasn’t easy at first, though, because all that came to my mind was my past. Memories flooded in, and things I’d forgotten about wanted my attention. My body would tense up, I’d tell myself that it wasn’t working, and I’d just go back to my old habits. One day a mentor told me that it was my inner child wanting to j ..read more

What dream are you willing to fight for?

I woke in an unfamiliar place and for a split second I felt fear. Then, I quickly realized that I was waking up in the penthouse. I stretched, stood, pushed the button to open the curtains and watched the sun rise over the treeline. Off in the distance the skyline of Atlanta, Georgia greeted me as if to say, “Good morning!” Somehow, I found my way to the kitchen in a very dark hallway, made coffee and walked back to the bed to finish watching the morning sun take over the crystal clear sky. The day prior was my dad’s birthday and he would have been ninety years old. I could feel him with me ..read more

If you want to stop feeling as though life is controlling you, then you must take charge of your time. Do one thing each day where you feel you are controlling time. It’ll make all the difference in your world, and a certain magic will begin to happen where you start life in a new way. Is there a burning inside of you? Do you wake up and think, “There is so much more to my life than this!”? Perhaps you don’t think anything when you rise in the morning. If you are like the old me, I used to wake up, jump out of bed, (because I couldn’t afford to hit “snooze” one more time), rush here and rush ..read more

What Could You Accomplish if You Stopped Second-Guessing Yourself?

Self-sabotage is actually self-protection rooted in fear. This can feel so shaming, I know. But, it’s not your fault! My hope for this blog is that you will begin to see how powerful you are regardless of how insidious your fear is. You see, self-sabotage simply means that you’re not wanting to do the “right” thing for your higher self because then your life will move in directions that are unfamiliar to you – like huge success, deep love, endless travel – whatever your big dream is intending for you. Self-sabotage sounds so ugly because it’s misunderstood. It’s actually you loving yourself a ..read more
