I had lunch today with a great friend.  We have known each other in business for about 20 years. He asked me a question that I have not been asked recently. “What makes you different from your competitors?” I felt particularly proud today having had a few great client experiences in the past week. The answer came easily. I told him, “We know what we are doing.” We specialize in delivering sound masking systems that are designed for our clients.  Many of our ..read more

Human-centric design for the modern workplace

A great read from our friend Kay Sargent!   As it appeared in the Colorado Real Estate Journal. “The workforce is diverse and what we do varies from day to day, often hour to hour. So the workplace has to be designed to be in tune with, and supportive of, how, when and where we work today. A one-sizefits- all approach no longer will suffice.” Read the full article here Sargent-CREJ Dec 2018 The post Human-centric design for the modern workplace appeared first on adi ..read more

From WorkDesign Magazine: https://workdesign.com/2018/06/teaching-your-eyes-to-hear/ Steve Johnson of ADI Workplace Acoustics explains how teaching your eyes to hear will improve the quality of experience for the occupants of the beautiful spaces that you create. Talented designers are tasked with a multitude of decisions. Form, function, adjacency, circulation, light, color. Acoustics is an important factor to be considered in order for any workplace to satisfy its purpose: productive work. Great data is available from workplace researchers that indicates many work environments fall short in ..read more

Improving Workplace Productivity in the Changing Office with Workplace Acoustics
ADI Acoustics Blog

The workplace is changing in exciting and dramatic ways, but some of the same problems that have always plagued employers continue to persist. Improving workplace productivity may in fact be harder today than ever before. Technology has fueled a rapid re-thinking of how work is done and where work is done. Some of the results are that private offices are disappearing, workstations are shrinking, collaborative areas are multiplying and unassigned drop-in space is growing. Despite all of these changes, the workplace still needs to provide space for thoughtful concentration. One of the challenges ..read more

Understanding Acoustics: How Materials and Shapes Affect Workplace Acoustics
ADI Acoustics Blog

Walking my dog on beautiful fall day I came across this band shell. From experience, we can look at this and guess how sound will be affected by the shape and materials. If I sat my boy Oz in the middle of the shell and got him to bark, everyone “down range” of the shell would hear him very clearly. The shape and the materials concentrate sound and focus it in a specific direction. Now, think about a high-end law firm lobby. Painted gypsum ceilings, glass conference room walls, maybe even a curved glass wall. How would the results be different? As you plan spaces and choose materials, think a ..read more

Workplace Acoustics and Workplace Wellness

I have been thinking about the connection between two topics: workplace acoustics and the workplace wellness movement. It seems that those that are looking at workplace trends are spending good time looking at what makes employees comfortable, engaged and productive. Frequently missed is the concept that acoustics may be used as a proactive tool to increase workplace effectiveness. I define Workplace Acoustics as: The act of proactively creating an acoustical environment that promotes comfort, focus and productive work. The addition of acoustically absorptive materials around areas with high v ..read more

Office Speech Privacy: A Trouble Shooter’s Guide
ADI Acoustics Blog

Acoustical problems in the workplace, particularly issues involving office speech privacy, have some of the most elusive solutions. When conversations conducted within a private office or conference room can be understood in adjoining areas, the functional goal of the space is not being met. Sound travels as energy from the talker’s mouth to the listener’s ear. Within a fraction of a second, the sound of speech strikes every surface of a room multiple times. This invasive energy finds its way through the acoustical weaknesses in the built environment very much like water finding its way out o ..read more
