Originally published May 2017 Keep out – no boys allowed. Remember that sign we made on our forts, especially those of us with brothers? It’s not that we weren’t interested. We just needed some time to be, well, girls. There are two travel trends being tossed about by the crème de la crème of publishing, Condé Nast. They caught my eye, because I’d like to think we’ve been on trend for awhile now with our yoga retreats. Read on. Women’s Travel. While this is certainly nothing new, the travel industry is paying attention to what they can do for us girls. Women’s only trips, like our y ..read more

Me and Ganesh, Costa Rica January 2017. 2016: first Prince, next Bowie, then my younger brother. George Michael, Princess Leia. There went my childhood. The world is a different place to me now. Even those times we weren’t close, even if we hadn’t seen each other for awhile…I knew he was out there. The closest flesh and blood possible. Ever since I was four. Now it’s like a phantom limb, a part of me that has died along with him. People who don’t know ask, “how are you?” I hear myself answer “fine”. But there is this voice inside my head screaming, My brother just died!! I am anything b ..read more

Photo of me by Nicole Ross, Creative Quarterback Originally published November 2016 So, it’s been a roller coaster of a week. A roller coaster of a year, actually. But, I don’t want to merely add another drop in the vast ocean of post-election musings swimming around out there. I don’t want to talk about politics, exactly. Because no matter how you voted or how you are feeling after the results, it’s my hope that what I’ve decided to say here will resonate with you. On a personal level, the divisiveness of this year, the constant upping the ante on shock value, and the culminati ..read more

I wrote this for Western Horse UK earlier this year. Our picture was on the cover!  Originally published May 2016 What is Cowgirl Yoga? We get asked this a lot. People are immediately intrigued. Can you be a Cowgirl and a Yogini? Yes! It’s an empowering combination. Cowgirl Yoga is an active vacation, for mind, body and spirit. But officially, Cowgirl Yoga is Yoga & Horseback Riding Retreats for Women, for all levels of yoginis and equestrians. Imagine a long weekend of yoga and horses – a girl’s dream come true. Explore how both can put you in touch with your potential and teach you ..read more

Why you should sign up for a yoga retreat

Originally published April 2016 And…what you should look for in one. At first glance, this might seem self-serving of me: I run a yoga retreat business. But while I’d love for you to come on one of my retreats, there are lots of great options out there to choose from. The biggest reward of investing in a yoga retreat goes way beyond a nice vacation. Many people view vacation as escapism, to get away from their day-to-day lives. A great yoga retreat helps you discover ways to make your day-to-day life the one you want to live, the place you want to be. Yoga definitely helps add a sacred ..read more

In today’s upside-down world, there’s nothing more important than authentic connections with people who can help us cultivate self-care. For the next 3 months, I’m interviewing three amazing women in wellness who will all be joining us on our September Restore & Reboot Big Sky Yoga Retreat in Montana, and inspiring us with their teaching gifts. Q: For the newbies, what is Ayurveda in a nut shell? Ayurveda is the indigenous medical system of India that views health through an all-encompassing lens, looking at the body-mind-spirit in relationship to nature. Ayurveda means “the knowledge of ..read more

Happy Fall from the snow-capped mountains of Montana! You know how you need to periodically clean out your closets, garage, and kitchen cupboards? Websites need an occasional “deep clean,” too, and ours is underway. (Thanks in advance for your patience if we’re slower with updates, or if it seems a bit buggy for the next month or so.) Since we have some exciting 2022 retreat news to share, though, I wanted to provide a sneak peek via the blog! After an anything-but-zen 2020 season, we were all the more grateful to be able to host eight Montana retreats this year. #maximizemontana Each weekend ..read more

Heart Opening Yoga

Tiptoe fish pose – one of my fave heart openers. All photos by Larry Stanley Photography. It’s that time of year again… yes, Valentine’s Day is upon us. I have mixed feelings about this holiday — warm memories of getting Valentines in grade school, delicious chocolates, dinner dates are now layered with an adult skepticism. Is there any pure love remaining beneath all the commercialism? The short answer is yes, if we’re willing to open our own hearts and see it. Like anything else, we can use this event as a catalyst for good — that choice is ours. On our Cowgirl Yoga retreats, I talk a lot ab ..read more

Yoga you can do when you can’t do anything else

Horse hugs are always healing. All photos by Larry Stanley Photography. So… that happened. My entire family got COVID. I’m very grateful to report that we have recovered without complications, but there were a lot of days where not much was possible. Rest has been essential. It’s frustrating to not be able to do what you usually do — but never has rest felt more important than when we were sick with this unpredictable [ahem] thing, when we didn’t know if it would take a turn for the worse. We had to ease back into “normal.” Rest. Normal. More rest. And eventually, thankfully, I was able to add ..read more
