I currently work in manufacturing at Lam. I recently interviewed for FSE positions both Lam and ASM. Information I've gleaned from some peers is that ASM will likely pay significantly more for then same role (a friend just jumped ship and went to ASM from Lam because they offered him around 35% more than Lam was paying, and Lam wasn't willing to negotiate his wage). Workplace politics aside, my favorite part about working at Lam is that at the end of the day, I clean up my area and go home. In 4 years, I've never experienced mandatory overtime, requirements stay late, or been pressured into c ..read more

I’m interested in semiconductor and device physics and I’m currently reading a textbook to learn more. I want to do some projects to demonstrate to employers that I have experience in the area (like how cs students are always working on their project portfolio). If anyone has any recommendations for project ideas I would greatly appreciate it. I can’t do anything too complex like this: https://youtu.be/IS5ycm7VfXg?si=43DKQG37yUmAPim7 I would prefer something accessible to start off, like something that can be done purely through software. My school also has a pretty good fab so maybe I could ..read more

Hi, I have a PhD in Physics from a top3 non-US university and over 6 years of experience working in cleanroom and lab environments. I am currently on a J visa at a well-known national lab. I also have an approved I-140 but I won’t be able to act on it until likely 2026, meaning that until then any work opportunity is conditional on my obtaining a visa. Apart from doing H1B (which is a lottery) I am told I am also eligible for an O but of course, either option in contingent on finding an employer willing to sponsor me. I have applied for a lot of jobs which do not require US citizenship and wh ..read more
