Clare’s Law came into force across England and Wales in March 2014, following the murder of Clare Wood who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. Clare’s ex-partner had a history of threats, harassment, and violence against women. Clare lived in Salford and was tragically murdered by her former partner, George Appleton in February 2009. Jade’s Law: Helping to Provide Better Protection for Children

The amendment and introduction of Jade’s Law into the Victims and Prisoners Bill on 3rd October 2023, will automatically removes a person’s parental responsibility if sentenced for killing their partner. This new law will be applicable to anyone who has been convicted of the murder or voluntary manslaughter of a person they share parental responsibility with. The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) provide justice to victims of crime by compensating their injuries and financial losses. However, recent data from APIL paints a concerning picture about their compensation process. An analysis of the 379 CICA cases that reached appeal in 2022/23 reveals an alarming trend of under-settlement. In those cases the average initial offer made by the CICA stood at a mere £7,848. What is a Non-Molestation Order? A non-molestation order is a Court Order that prohibits an abuser, or a third party instructed by the abuser, from threatening, intimidating, harassing, pestering, communicating or using violence against the victim.
