We had one of the best foods from MIFUNE New York. The Executive Chef, who is an acquaintance of my gourmet sister’s best friend. Everything we had was so good, we went back for more, and then again! I took my mother there while she was vising us here in NYC, and also, my in-laws. Everyone loved the food there. Now, Chef Yuu Shimano has his own restaurant in Brooklyn, called Restaurant YUU. He opened his restaurant in May 2023, and guess what, he received his first Michelin Star in November 2023! Yup, that’s right, he really is THAT talented! They have 18 counter seats for dining, however, th ..read more

Another great place we went in the Fall of 2023…Amuse Bouche Bistro! I was looking for a more casual place, and I found this lovely spot. But, I must admit, I was a bit confused as I approached the address. I didn’t see a building or anything that could like a small restaurant or an eatery. Then, I found out it is located inside the La Marqueta, an indoor market under the train tracks. Amuse Bouche Bistro was right at the entrance. It had all sorts of delicious looking food and treats. We got there around noon time on weekday, so it was not busy, and some shops were not even open. One of the ..read more

Thyme Bar

We have been to Patisserie Chanson a few times, and to the Dessert Bar (CLOSED) below a few years ago. The space that used to be occupied by the Dessert Bar is now a hidden, a cocktail speakeasy lounge! While my family was here, I decided to take them there. There was a somewhat not-noticeable sigh next to Patisserie Chanson, but we had to go inside the Patisserie Chanson in order to go down to the Thyme Bar. The inside was beautiful, quite different from how it used to be before, when they were Dessert Bar. Reservation is only for their Tasting Menu, otherwise, you can do walk-in. Since we w ..read more

I am back at writing about the places we dined several months ago… Better late than never! I found this spot called Riverpark while I was looking for a nice restaurant with a view of the river. I thought my mother and my niece will enjoy it. The location was not as easy to access, since there is no subway stop right by there. But, we can all use a little bit of walk, can we? The Riverpark is located inside a large building, on the first floor in the back, towards the East River. The walls facing the East River are covered with huge windows from floor to ceiling. It gives such beautiful view o ..read more

When you have out-of-town visitors, there are a few places that might be interesting for them. It might be a bit tourist-y, which usually means pricey and not very tasty dishes. Well, I might’ve found a pretty good spot! It is Cipriani Dolci, inside the landmark, Grand Central Terminal. Cipriani has many, many locations all over the world. In 2002, they opened this location. Since they are located on the higher level, you get to have a magnificent view of the Grand Central Terminal. I asked for the table with the view, but when we arrived, they wanted to sit us at the back… The lovely hostess ..read more

Ever since we first visited Olio e Piú in 2017, we’ve become a massive fan of the restaurant. We returned again shortly after, and the experience was as great as the first time. When my family was visiting, I thought they would love this spot too. So on a rainy day, we headed over for lunch. They always had a nice outdoor seating, but after the pandemic, they outdoor seating was more prominent, covered, and filled with greeneries. The greens extended into the indoor space, which made the beautiful space even more beautiful and wonderful. We decided to get a couple of their non-alcoholic cockta ..read more

Bathtub Gin

If you read many of my posts, you know I absolutely love Speakeasy spots. We recently went to this fun place called Bathtub Gin in Chelsea. When you get to the address, you see Stone Street coffee shop, already closed for the day. But guess what, comes the magic hour, a staff will come out and let you in a group at a time (you want to get a reservation beforehand for this place). Inside the coffee shop, through a secret door, a whole different world opens up before you. Dim lights and romantic antique decor, you are transported to the twenties. I love 1920’s-inspired speakeasy! We had a reser ..read more

Elsie Rooftop

There are so many great rooftop spots in NYC, I have been to a few, such as Sushi Lab Rooftop and Hotel Chantelle, and had a really nice time! This time, I found this spot called Elsie Rooftop for a Bottomless Brunch. I usually stay away from bottomless places, since they tend to water down the drinks, or the drinks are not so great, from my past experience. So, I was not sure about how this place was going to be, but I was hopeful. The sign for this spot was not extremely noticeable, but we found it without issue. Once we entered, we went down a long, super clean, shiny white hallway. A staff ..read more

The Cauldron NYC 2023

We went to The Cauldron NYC in 2018 for The Cauldron Magical Cocktail Experience. It was so much fun! We were given a cape and a wand (just to borrow during the experience) to complete the mood. With all sorts of magical spells and the wand to create “potion” cocktails, it sure was memorable! This time, we went back for their Wizard Afternoon Tea ($59.99/adult) with friends. Up the stairs, the inside was still nicely decorated for the magical feel. This time, there was no cape, and we were given a wand per table during the afternoon tea. It seems like you can bring your own special magical wan ..read more
