Helio Castroneves, a true racer who has already made so much history in American motorsport and IndyCar, arguably achieved the most impressive accolade of his career last month, becoming just the fourth driver in the history of the prestigious Indianapolis 500 to take a fourth title at “The Brickyard”. There are a number of factors that make this victory so special. The Sao Paulo native has had to wait 12 years since his last win in Indy and, for the first time, he wasn’t racing in the 500 mile race for Roger Penkse’s team. Helio had been moved from Penske’s IndyCar program to compete for the ..read more

This week, Ferrari have confirmed that their long standing racing partners, AF Corse will continue to work alongside the Prancing Horse as the ultra successful sportscar manufacturer gets ready for its new Le Mans Hypercar program. Surprise? No, not really. Since the FIA World Endurance Championship’s inaugural season in 2012, AF Corse have helped the Italia marque to five constructors’ titles and three 24 Hours of Le Mans victories. The Ferrari LMH programme was confirmed earlier this year with a season debut scheduled for 2023. Meanwhile, their long term rivals from Sant’Agata Bolognese have ..read more

You can always count on Bologna’s best to make a racecar that’s not only technically impressive but is also a work of art. Lamborghini’s latest Super Trofeo racer has been revealed today. After seven years of racing and 950 drivers, the existing Huracán Super Trofeo machine will be replaced by the EVO2 from 2022 onwards and become the official GT car for the Italian manufacturer’s highly competitive single make championships in North America, Europe and Asia. The Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 is packed with new aerodynamics, an improved braking system and a more intense carbon fiber ..read more

The Pink Pig on Dust In The Pit Lane

Dust In The Pit Lane has got a massive Porsche enthusiast community, that is clear. A lot of the most engaging content throughout three years, has a Porsche in it. I may be perceived as a Porsche addict (which I am and don’t hide) but above all, and especially in this space, I’m a car lover and I want to display (like someone I know sees DITPL) the ‘National Geographic’ of motorsport photography! However, in this case I can’t ignore that this is the most popular photo of all time on Instagram! The Manthey-Racing Pink Pig is a must in every feed and Marcel captured it in perfection in 2018 dur ..read more

Mazda announced that they will end their IMSA program by the end of this season and they’re not considering the future LMDh series either. The RT24-P, first raced in 2017 and ever since it has been my favorite DPi – what a sexy beast. This year already, Mazda cut back their participation to one car only. With Oliver Jarvis and Harry Tincknell behind the wheel, let’s just enjoy it as much as possible while it still hits the track! LMDh. The endurance top class that will bring Porsche back to Le Mans. News are widely spreading!! They are back! Porsche will make its return to the Endurance Top Class (Hypercar) with a LMDh prototype in 2023, coincidentally (or not!) the year of the 24 Hours of Le Mans centenary. For the first time in more than 20 years, it will be possible for Porsche to fight for overall victories with identical vehicles at endurance races around the world, like the 24h of Daytona. These are really awesome news, I just can’t wait for it and I am sure that any Porsche fan, out there, is jumping for pure jo ..read more

The eSports boom

When looking back to 2020 and what dramatically changed, motorsports wise, I can only think of eSports and its mega growth! That industry grew in two months what they would possibly grow in two years. The boost was incredible. Having the motorsport world grounded at home due to the pandemic truly helped going virtual and gain extra attention… eSports are staying for good. It is said that the sim racing market is projected to increase by almost 50% between 2020 and 2022 with a projected value of over $9bn. Incredible right? This year, all world’s key racing series moved from real circuits to th ..read more

Audi goes for a color boost and Africa inspired liveries for the 9 hours of Kyalami and the driver lineup was announced today! What do you think about these amazing patterns and eye-catching colours? They really nailed it. The final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge season takes place in the fantastic South African Kyalami track from the 10th to the 12th of December. Both Manufacturers and Drivers titles are still to be decided, therefore (and very likely) we can expect this one to be retained as one to be spectacular! The comeback

The other day, Garage59 joked that they may consider not giving Marvin Kirchhöfer back to R-Motorsport! And they have reasons for that!   Marvin made his return to racing last weekend at Paul Ricard, after a very long off time (actually since Bathurst), and what a comeback this one was! He was key to helping the team grab the Endurance Cup Pro-Am Cup Teams/Drivers championship title! That race-winning pass with 30 minutes left to the flag was clean and did it for the win!  Photo by Patrick Hecq I SRO  #GTWorldChEu #AstonMartin #DustInThePitLane The post The comeback appeared f ..read more

The strategist

The crucial role of strategy in motorsports.  That was what it took to Alessandro Pier Guidi and the #51 Ferrari to win the Paul Ricard 1000km race yesterday.  While leading for most of the race, the GPX Porsche stopped for the final time with 45 minutes left on the clock and changed to a full set of tyres, while the AF Corse Ferrari ran a bit longer.  With only 30 minutes to go, they finally made their final pit stop. And here’s the twist: they decided to change two tyres only and gained time.  In doing so, Pier Guidi took over Mathieu Jaminet’s lead.  Between both ca ..read more
