In a world where artificial intelligence is now being used to create beer recipes and entire brew systems are fueled by automation, the craft beer industry is beginning to look less like the scrappy bootstrapped, mom-and-pop entrepreneurial operation that inspired approximately 10,000 neighborhood breweries across the country and more like the big box corporate breweries that have monopolized the market for so many decades.
While automation has helped to create efficiencies that become critical for fueling explosive growth, some aspects of operating a brewery just work better with a human touc ..read more

In this episode of Bean to Barstool, we’re looking at a fascinating collaboration between a craft chocolate maker and a craft brewery. Eric Parkes at Somerville Chocolate is a tenant in Aeronaut Brewing’s building in Somerville, Massachusetts, so he makes chocolate just a short distance from where brewmaster Mark Bowers and Director of Brewing Operations Filipe Garcia are brewing beer. This has allowed for an ongoing creative exchange between these worlds, yielding unique beers made with cacao and unique chocolate bars made with beer, brewing ingredients, and cacao and other ingredients that h ..read more

Craft beer drinkers have long relied on friends, brewery staff and trusted sites like BeerAdvocate for beer advice, but the recent buzz around AI raises questions. Should you ditch old habits and let AI recommend beer? Is the technology good enough to trust with your hard-earned dollars and discerning palate? Spoiler alert—I would wouldn’t scrap my Untappd app just yet.
The Experiment
I decided to run an experiment asking ChatGPT about Golden City Brewing’s Red Ale. Golden City is an established local brewery in Golden, Colo., and its flagship Red Ale seemed like a good example of something th ..read more

If a beer and wine ever had a drunken one-night-stand, the resulting spawn would be Diebolt Brewing Biere de Triomphe. This tasty brew marries Diebolt’s brewing expertise with wine-barrel aging for a beer that encapsulates some of the highlights of both beverages. Flavor-wise, it is truly a seamless union of beer and wine.
Complex and Unique
Although technically classified as a Biere de Garde, Biere de Triomphe is a difficult beer to style-box due to its complexity. The brew is unique in the Denver craft beer scene. As owner Dan Diebolt acknowledges, “It’s not a popular style to successfully m ..read more

In today’s craft beer industry, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stand out. To this Saint Errant Brewing said “hold my beer,” throwing something entirely new into the barrel-aged stout game. On March 19, the Chicago brewery announced the release of Skosh. A whimsical idea morphed into a pragmatic reality, this oak-aged imperial stout was packaged in a bag. In a box. With a pour spout. There was no way that we weren’t going to showcase craft beer going full Franzia mode, so we asked Saint Errant co-owner Brent Banks to send a box our way to feature on PorchDrinking.
