Background: Years ago- my kids may not have even been in school- I served on a finance committee for the school district.  This was an important learning moment that set a path of volunteerism. The State of Ohio's funding model burdens communities like ours to bring in our own revenue. Property tax and more recently income tax, executed by levies, allow populations to decide funding levels. Tax levies are the key to the income source.  Joe and I have engaged with these operational levies- learning, challenging, promoting, and even leading.  It is a similar situation for librari ..read more

Friends- a public thank you to Kelly Baldwin and Amanda Love.  Two friends who checked in and helped me respond to invitations I missed.  I would have been disappointed to miss the opportunities and not pleased to not have engaged with the invitee! One was mail, one email, but there have been times I'm sitting at my desk and miss an online meeting.  And again I remember fondly the person who sent a text, called, or popped in to say- you coming? What I also appreciate they recognize- it is not like you not to be late or not reply.  Thank you for helping me juggle the m ..read more

Today is March 1st and it feels good! March feels more like Spring- we are in the Spring Semester, not the Winter semester at Denison! We had an extra day, leap year- Feb 29th yesterday. It has been a week of retreats and catch-ups with fantastic colleagues and a few drinks.   Commercial- the Granville Inn has the best mixologist, Reuben, who was at Asterisk i ..read more

NYC twice, Florida three times- with Boston for good measure! I type this in the middle of this travel plan. For the record one of these was personal- and oh it was lovely to take some time with friends in Naples! With the kids now "out of the house" it makes travel for work all the easier.  And it is true- absence makes the heart grow fonder, even after 25 years! I look forward to the cuddles with Joe and Lucy on my return. Denison events are special, meetings with Denison's parents and alums even more special.  I am fortunate to have a job that has me developing relationships ..read more

After 23 years at First Presbyterian Church, Granville, Oh!  She's always been our pastor. Joe and I moved here shortly after she accepted her call. Of course we are thrilled for this direction in her life. Of course we will miss her, but we understand there are seasons and this is the time for her and our church. We are so fortunate and blessed to have had her for this long. If you would like to help celebrate and honor Karen- let me know- we are gathering memory cards for a special container for her to take with her. We're having a party and a reception.  Love her sermons- ch ..read more
