Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK This may be the most intriguing player in the 2024 NBA draft. Perhaps the biggest domino to fall for the Tide Basketball team happened today, with Mark Sears’ announcement of his intent to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. There is a giant caveat to that, however, and we’ll discuss it in a moment. Alabama's Mark Sears will declare for the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility, per his IG page. — Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) April 17, 2024 As many marginal players have done, Sears is submitting his name for the draft while retaining hi ..read more

Basketball, though, is a different critter entirely News is going to be in short supply today, so I’m just going to post as much feel-good Gump Red Meat as I can find. Let’s start: ‘Bama fiddin’ to take over the league. Among the outstanding players Nate Oats has developed in half a decade, I think we overlook this guy. The Tide looks hungover, listless, and out of sorts on Tuesday night in losing to a -bluntly- bad Birmingham University team. Alabama entered the week with an RPI of 12 while the Blazers RPI came in at 185. The lo ..read more

Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK Kalen DeBoer, recruiting savant? Kicking things off... The more things change, the more they remain the same: The biggest riser for an Alabama commit, by far, was made by Brooks. The former three-star and No. 99 overall wide receiver is now up to No. 101 overall, which is one of the most impressive jumps made in a single update that you will see. Brooks is now the No. 15 wideout in this recruiting cycle. Another significant riser in today’s update was from Harmon, who committed to Bama on Sunday. The Rome (Ga.) product is now at No. 129 over ..read more

Players coming and going. Will it be a trickle or a flood? The Spring College Football Transfer Portal opens today, Tuesday, April 16 for 15 days and closes on Tuesday, April 30. Players can enter the TP, but do not have to decide on their destination within those two weeks. Graduate transfers must enter the portal by May 1. Once a player enters the portal, the original school no longer has to honor the athletic scholarship originally given to him. Should he return to that school, he is not obligated to get another scholarship. This is the last portal until December. Also on-going is the bask ..read more

There is a storm approaching. Does anyone see it? It is the Spring College Football Transfer Portal that opens on Tuesday, April 16. Many teams will lose players and gain players. The baseball team scored a big series win over top-ranked Arkansas this weekend, while softball split the first two against Texas A&M with the rubber match to be played today. Gary Cosby Jr.-USA TODAY Sports Kalen DeBoer’s first spring game with Tuscaloosa went about as well as could be expected. The annual Alabama spring game is in the books, with the offense taking home the win in the new scoring format. Early on the offense did basically whatever it wanted, but coach Kalen DeBoer said at the half that the defense had been “vanilla” and alluded to some adjustments. Sure enough, the defense stepped up and got several stops once Kane Wommack started scheming to slow down the offense rather than just giving them a base look. In general, it was a pretty encouraging da ..read more
