A new blog post! It has been a loooong while since I’ve sat at my laptop to write a blog post and it feels so good. I have missed this feeling. I’m currently sitting on a rooftop terrace in Athens with the most incredible view of the Acropolis. It’s sunny and there’s a gentle breeze and it certainly doesn’t feel like the October I know. After I finished my garden design course in July, I jumped straight back into client work working on some exciting projects including two gardens for the loveliest clients. August and September went by in a flash so we’re now making the most of the late summ ..read more

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN LINEN HEADBOARD SLIPCOVER

If you’ve been following on Instagram you’ll know that during UK lockdown in April and May we spent a lot of time decorating our flat here in London… we painted the walls, had the woodworker in and bought a few pieces of furniture. After the summer back home in Switzerland, we’re finally back and are picking up where we left off. I showed you all of the snazzy organising we did under our IKEA MALM ottoman bed in these stories and this weekend I just finished sewing the slipcover to go over the headboard. It works perfectly and I love how to softens the space and adds to the cosiness of the ..read more

This is my go to summer dessert when I’ve got friends coming over and I want to make something quick that fills the house with the most delicious smells. My mum has made it for parties, I’ve seen a few of you making it since I posted it on my stories, and any time anyone has a pots of homemade jam to use up, this is the recipe I send through because it works with all sorts of different fruit and jam mixtures. Last year, I made it with some homemade plum jam and freshly picked plums that a friend gave me and that was absolutely delicious, but this combination here has to be my absolute favou ..read more

MY CHARITY SHOP FINDS

Last weekend, I gave you a little tour of Emmaüs in Etagnières and shared a few tips on how to spot the gems in a charity shop. Today, I wanted to take the pieces we found out of the shop and show you how you could style them all together and just how easy it is to piece together a beautiful collection of second hand homeware. It was the perfect excuse for a late summer picnic with my one of my best friends and her gorgeous pup. Whether you’re moving into your first apartment and don’t have any crockery or if just want to give your homeware a refresh, it’s really worth considering buying se ..read more

HOW TO BUY SECOND HAND HOMEWARE
Sofia Clara | Switzerland Creative Outlet Blog

As you may know from Instagram, I’m on a mission to kit out our flat in London with second hand crockery, glassware and cutlery as much as possible. It’s going well… we currently have six dessert plates and six cake forks in our cupboard with a few odd sherry glasses. Clive is loving eating everything out of one of our two bowls that survived my extreme crockery cull or off a 10cm dessert plate. I have this vision of a whole table full of mismatched crockery and glassware that all work together but I’m so picky that it’s going to take me a little while to get there. I only ever buy things I ..read more

HOW TO PERSONALISE A PHOTO ALBUM
Sofia Clara | Switzerland Creative Outlet Blog

I am such sucker for a handmade photo album. I understand the attraction of printed photo books but to me, there’s something so special about being able to slot in drawings, notes and things like train tickets or dinner menus alongside the photos you’ve printed. I made Clive a photo album with photos from our first year together for his birthday a few years ago and he still says it is one of his favourite gifts. We both occasionally pick it up and laugh at all the ridiculous memories and notes I left inside. I feel like that’s something that you only really do when you have an actual photo ..read more

VICTORIA SANDWICH WITH ORANGE BLOSSOM ICING

I feel like some things are allowed during lockdown that wouldn’t have felt entirely acceptable before. Things like using up the last of the flour to bake a Victoria sponge and not sharing it with anyone outside of your tiny little household of two. I whipped this up last weekend and it meant that we had to have multiple servings of tea and cake a day in order to make sure we ate it while the sponge was still fresh. Such a hardship, I know. As unfashionable as it may be, I wanted to share my ideal Victoria sandwich on here because it is such a comforting taste. There’s just nothing quite li ..read more

HOW TO DYE TABLE LINEN IN THE WASHING MACHINE

I don’t know about you but spring cleaning has taken on a whole new meaning over here. We’ve been busy painting the bedroom, sorting the cupboards, and cleaning all sort of things that I’ve never even thought of cleaning before… all in order to give us something to do and force us to stay indoors as much as possible. A couple of weeks ago, IDEAL wrote to me asking if I’d like to try out their liquid textile dye and show you guys how it works. I’ve had a little play around dyeing some old white napkins that I found in the midst all of my tidying and home decorating and thought I’d share the ..read more

The majority of us are currently in some sort of confinement or self-isolation, and probably going a bit stir crazy already (I know, it’s only day 4!). I’m in London with Clive in our flat…he’s a couple of meters away on a work video call. I’m sitting on the sofa writing this post and trying to steady my tea intake to avoid having to walk through his video call to get to the bathroom. It’s a strange, strange situation, isn’t it? While I do still have quite a lot of design work and paperwork to be getting on with, I’m not used to sitting in front of the computer all ..read more

MAKE YOUR OWN SILK RIBBON
Sofia Clara | Switzerland Creative Outlet Blog

Over the years, I have spent a small fortune on silk ribbon. I have a whole box full that I insisted was absolutely essential that it came with me to London. All of it. It’s probably a little excessive, but I often use it in my hair, to wrap beautiful presents, and for work on things like moodboards to add texture. I love the selection on Seidenband and have often use their ribbon in DIY projects (so that’s a great option if you don’t want to make it yourself), but it is really easy to make. It’s a good way to use up any silk scraps you might have lying around, and ..read more
