I’ve been wanting to write this for yonks, a blog about happy hour in our fine city of Norwich. Because who wouldn’t want some info on the cheapest time to get tipsy on cocktails ? and maybe some trails! Cocktails are around £8 – 14 or £6 if you know a special place with the best fried chicken around.  So a fifty won’t get you very far BUT if you knew when the best time was to go out for Cocktails – well you’d get double for your money.  Bubba – White Lion Street, opposite Castle Mall entrance. 1st floor – sorry no disabled access.  Let’s start with the cheapest Cockta ..read more

A guide to alternative Sunday lunch in our fine city. (Norwich) Of course if you do fancy a traditional Sunday roast my top 2 favourites are the Temple Bar for under £15 and loads of veggies, no booking, go early to avoid disappointment or a tad later to enjoy mid-afternoon. I’m always too full to eat dessert but they are classic too and look extremely yummy.  My top choice is Boston House more than your usual but it’s a fine dining style roast of the highest order, no topside here just prime cuts and beef fat roast potatoes, I defy you to find a better expertly cooked ..read more

For all the hate of Food Bloggers

For all the hate of Food Bloggers I come at food blogging from both sides – a few years ago a blogger contacted me and wanted a free stay at my holiday barns for a review on her account, it turned out she had half the followers I had – of course I just laughed and ignored it.  Being a business you get at least one request a month for a raffle prize, usually from a private school or a not local charity. I’m happy to offer a few a year but cap it off and choose my charities well.  But if someone did for my business what I do for dozens of local food businesses for free on a daily basis ..read more

Royal Norfolk Show

There is nothing more Norfolk than the Royal Norfolk Show, after all where can you go for the whole day and see combine harvesters, a monster viewing platform, a whole parmesan and the top of a Royal Princes head. I’ve been enjoying the Norfolk Show since last century, I’ve seen countless Royals visit, worked there, but mainly visited as a honoured Norfolk person who’s really from Suffolk. There is your gentry, the land owners, the farmers and the peasants – we all wonder the aisles up and down looking for stickers and free pens and if your lucky a tote bag. Sometimes coming away with a chunk ..read more

Malta My complete guide Flights to Malta  Malta is 3 hours flying time from the UK, we went via Gatwick as wanted to travel on a Sunday but there are several flights daily from other airports.  Air Malta – our journey out, was an hour delay, only slightly better than Easy Jet but more expensive. British Airways – our return with more comfortable chairs, no more leg room But better hospitality and some snacks on offer.  30 minutes delay on getting home. We saw Easy Jet, Jet 2 and Thomson flights. Prices may be cheaper by paying separately for everything. We went via Expedia and a ..read more

2022  I wanted to share last years Highlights and what i’m looking forward to this year. I can’t deny i’ve had another epic food year. Ive always spent most of my money on food and I’d rather it be spent locally an independently, which is what i’ve achieved. Its always a pleasure writing about food and helping spread the word of local businesses. Being a food blogger comes with its highs and of course those include some lows. Im not good with criticism, especially when you throw your whole self in to what you do but luckily that doesn’t come that often and its mainly great feedback. I clo ..read more

Apple Crumble Grumble

Apple Crumble Grumble Why can’t I find a perfectly formed and cooked crumble. I went to Norwich catering college and we learnt from the good ole Practical Cookery book, which was as beige as a village hall buffet. But it had the best and most perfect recipes for all the basics including crumble – Half fat to flour and half sugar to fat. That’s it folks. Crumble Grumble No 1 – the deconstructed crumble. There is nothing more to say, but imagine just having eaten a good ole British roast beef dinner with fluffy high yorkies, crispy tatties, a selection of yummy veggies with of course cauliflower ..read more

Ive been really lucky to have had some amazing varied food lately and all in the name of Brunch. Brunch is a late morning meal eaten instead of Breakfast and Lunch – sounds perfect to me. In no particular order The Danomey – pop-up at The Stanley NR3 Offer weekend Brunch from 10am – 2pm – they do a full British breakfast with brick lane bagel but I had an amazing breakfast DA bagel dripping with maple and chilli sauce and packed with crispy bacon, egg, spinach and oozie cheese and YES it was delicious. They do everything right and flavour is always on point. They go to extremes like drive up t ..read more

Every year around now (September) on a Wednesday at the Norfolk Show Ground indoor arena – Local Flavours pops up. A fair where local suppliers display their products and buyers can come along to sample and network. Admittedly I’m not a big buyer, more of a promoter via Love Norwich Food and of course food writer so its great to see whats new and refresh my brain about old classics. But I do buy some local for my cookery school and have a little shop (I say shop – its a shelf) with local apple juice, jams and odd bits to enjoy while on holiday or to take home for Lodge Farm Holiday Barns – plu ..read more

THE EMPIRE OF YARMOUTH

Great Yarmouth has been a constant for me – like watching Grease for the first time and after that skateboarding with my bestie in the multi-storey. The Saturday mornings roller skating at the Wellington, winter gardens. The shows on the front watching old greats like Lanny Henry, Peters and Lee, Freddie Star. in-fact one of my earliest memory was my mum singing at the Carlton Hotel, she had a resident Saturday night slot there. I was no bigger than everyones knees and she did this champagne comp where people had to pass the bottle to the person on the left or right or behind and infront until ..read more
