How to Make a Soap Mitt from Granny Squares

I’ve recently transitioned back to using soap instead of a shower gel, which means soap mitts and soap scrubbies are very handy to have! I find them an easy way to use soap instead of a washcloth. And that is why I decided to design a soap mitt to use! If you want to make one then I recommend finding some cotton yarn. I’ve used Paintbox Cotton DK in natural colours. You can use any ply or brand that suits you though. To make this was relatively simple. I’ve chosen a granny square pattern from the Hooked on Crochet Club library and made two to them. I have then joined them on three sides and a ..read more

How do you find more time to crochet?

We’re all busy. And I don’t know about you, but for me time just keeps seeming to speed by faster and faster as the years go on. While we can’t slow down time, we can certainly find ways to slow it down for some moments and carve out space for what we really want to be doing. And if you really stop to think about it – time isn’t really going by faster. One minute is still 60 seconds. One hour is still 60 minutes. One day is still 24 hours. It is up to us what we do with each minute and each hour and each day that is ahead of us. Crochet is something that I do every single day and I get close t ..read more

How to Let go of Perfectionism

Perfectionism can be the thief of your joy, especially when it comes to crochet. Crochet is a craft with so many benefits. Yes we get to make something nice that we can choose to keep or give to others, but it is also a craft that calms us, that makes us happy and gives us peace from whatever demons are currently taking space in our heads. When we start to focus more on what we’re making looks like instead of how it is making us feel, then the perfectionist in us starts to take away our joy. Which is why I covered letting go of perfectionism in episode 2 of my Crochet and Chat – Mentor Series ..read more

A Lacey Look Crocheted Washcloth

I love texture in crochet! It is always so pretty and the texture in this washcloth is no exception to the rule. Can you imagine it as a lovely baby blanket? Or chunky throw? I know I can. And even better is that it is a relatively simple repeat pattern too. I’ve made it using my trusty KnitPicks Dishie and a 5mm hook. It works up quite quickly too given it’s lacey look. I’ve called it Whispering Puffs as it has a puff stitch with fewer yarn overs than usual. They’re almost whispering to us in the design. If you want to grab a copy then head to any of the links below. If you’re a member of my ..read more

A Different Type of Bookmark to Crochet
Honouring M.E. Crochet Blog

I was a bit dubious when I first decided to try this bookmark style out. I was basing it on a cloth bookmark that came across my newsfeed somewhere and kept the idea for ages before trying it out. My first attemps were failuers as i was trying to make the top piece a triangle, but don’t yet have the right type of triangle in my patterns yet. So I eventually just decided to go with two squares to see what that looked like. What do you think? It got a majority positive reaction when I shared it on my instagram stories, so I decided I would just go ahead and publish it and let you decide for you ..read more

The first step to gaining more confidence at crocheting is to determine exactly how confident you are already. It’s no secret that I think everyone can benefit from more ‘Me Time’, and I am a big advocate of helping you to find more time for you. I have done a lot of work on myself over the years and one of the best ways I have found to rest and recharge is with crochet. For this reason my first episode on my new Crochet and Chat Mentor Series is called “Embracing Me Time with Crochet.” I recommend that you grab your hook and your favourite drink and use this episode as an opportunity to get some me time. If you’re currently time poor then by all means play it and listen while you drive or get some oth ..read more

How to Make A Granny Square Bag with Lining
Honouring M.E. Crochet Blog

Is this not the cutest little bag you’ve ever seen? I’m a sucker for daisy style flowers and for bags, so this little bag is a favourite for me already. Since I used a proper bag handle I decided to line this bag to give it more strength and prevent the square from getting out of shape when I start to use it. So how have I made it? This one is with a worsted weight cotton and two squares from the Hooked on Crochet Club library. I have joined them with crab stitch and then blocked it. The join is around 3 sides and then I worked the crab stitch around the top. The lining I have made from some ..read more

The Best Way to Learn to Crochet Online

Let’s face it. Many of us that love crochet are introverts. We prefer to learn alone or in small groups. We can handle being in person with others if it is in a quiet and intimate setting, but if we had it our own way, we prefer to be at home on the couch where we can watch tv and crochet the day away. Online learning was made for those of us that are introverts! But it also has it’s challenges because not everyone learns the same way and sometimes we really need to be able to reach out to someone for some extra help. That is where the Square a Day Challenge comes in! The Square a Day Challeng ..read more

Granny Squares are one of my favourite things to make. Each square is a mini project that gives you a feeling of satisfaction every time you finish one. They can be simple or mindless to make or more challenging and fun to make. There are so many options of granny squares to make and so many things that you can turn them into. Whether it is one square, a handful of squares or hundreds of them, there is always something you can create from them. If you can master a granny square, you will never be bored again! Bookmarks are a small and fun project to make with a granny square. I’ve made quite a ..read more
