I used to make bulk sandwiches with some water thebln drive to homeless encampments and just starting handing them out. Id make basic turkey/Ham Sammie's with lettuce and tomatoes with some condiment options, along with chip bags, and water. Three friends and I are coming to visit next weekend and staying in the North Loop. We were hoping to take advantage of your bike paths and ride around for a couple hours on Saturday. However, it looks like the closest place to rent bikes is Erik's in Dinkytown which isn't all that close and doesn't open until 11. So, I've been thinking about this for about a year, but I haven't started anything because of the lack of snow last winter. I've been thinking about starting an informal group of volunteers that would like to help make the city more walkable in the winter. It is often very treacherous for me to walk down the sidewalk when snow and ice build up, and I've often thought about how difficult it would be for an elderly or disabled person to get around. The past few days I’ve noticed an alarm going off somewhere in the Longfellow neighborhood. I’m in Hiawatha to be specific. It sounds like one of those siren type car alarms. It goes off a few minutes, stops, then sometimes starts again later. Once or twice while it’s going off it’ll ounds like it’s getting closer but then fades. I only notice it later at night.
