How are you all getting on? These last few weeks have been full of challenges for all of us in so many different ways. I hope all of you and your families are well and safe and somehow prepared for another 3 weeks at home with the kids and away from loved ones. How’s that ‘home schooling’ going? If I was actually home schooling, it really wouldn’t look like this… nor would I be getting 3 phonecalls a week from school just to see how I’m getting on or wading my way through two lots of 34 page power-points a day to see if there was anything meaningful or relevant in there! Writing a re-count ab ..read more

Dear Nice Humans At a time when your inbox is full of email’s titled COVID 19 it is with a heavy heart that we also join the rapidly growing list of businesses both big and small that are closing their doors indefinitely.   After a week full of heart-breaking phone calls and emails I keep reminding myself of the word resilient.   ‘Are we packing it in?’ Not on your Nellie… Painting at your kitchen table may not be quite the same as a visit to the café but our Paint at Home Kits are now available in our on-line shop and we’ll be adding new kits in-between home-schooling and improvin ..read more

Dear customers and visitors We just wanted to let you know that we’ll be keeping a close eye on the Government’s recommendations regarding the current situation with the Coronavirus. You will find additional hand-soap and tissues available at the cafe and we have increased our cleaning schedule to minimise the risk of spreading any germs. Until further notice, we have removed the toys and books from our play area and our team will be wearing disposable latex gloves when assisting with baby hand-prints or clay imprints. We hope to see you all soon. Stay well. Toni and ..read more

Do you want your child to be an inkhead?

Whilst we are busy on a Saturday morning getting ready for the busy weekend ahead here at the cafe, we are secretly stealing the ideas of the amazing ‘pens’ attending Inkhead’s session. “What’s that you say?” We asked Louise to write a blog about what they get up to… What we do at inkhead Our aim in our inkhead clubs is to encourage your children to enjoy writing. We are all people who love words and want to share this love of words and how you can use them with the children in our groups. What I’ve learnt from years of working with kids at inkhead is that writing is about much ..read more

Can kids learn to code before they can read? (And why should they?!)
The Punk Me Up Ceramics Café Blog

Mama Codes will be running a workshop here at Half-Term and we were intrigued about what coding with your pre-schooler looks like… so we asked them to write a guest blog for us. As Mums ourselves, we get it – trying to figure out all the things you need to do in order to give your child the best possible start to school can seem overwhelming at times. Will they make friends? Will other kids already know how to read? Will the other Mums judge me because my child wants to take their favourite teddy to school with them?  It can seem like a never endless list of things to navigate – we ..read more
