In a cold, but fun-filled afternoon, the Bats defeated the New Forest Thunder yesterday in a preseason friendly by a score of 12-5. Bats player/manager Tim Singiser had this to say about his team’s performance on the field today: “We had a great game today and it was wonderful seeing quite a few new faces on the Bats. Everyone contributed well today and the results show that. The Badgers BBF AAA playoff hopes were ended on Sunday with two defeats by the Herts Cardinals. Needing to win both games of the double header, the Badgers went down 10-5 and 11-7 at the Basing Hill Ballpark in London. In the first game, the Bristol side went behind early and found themselves 9-3 down at the bottom of the fourth inning as their pitchers struggled to contain the Cardinals’ offense. Badgers’ infielder Deivydas Trinkunas hit his first home run of the season in the loss against Richmond Knights. It was a tough weekend for Bristol Baseball Club with the Badgers, Bats and Brunels all losing their double headers on Sunday. The Badgers were involved in two close BBF AAA games in Richmond against the Knights. The first game was a tense pitchers’ duel with only three runs separating the teams at the end of the fifth inning. The Badgers’ 13-4 victory in the first match of their BBF AAA double header against Essex Redbacks on Sunday has kept their playoff hopes alive. The Bristol team leapt out to an early 7-0 lead with shortstop Mattia Papini leading the way with two hits, three runs and two runs driven in. The Badgers showed great discipline at the plate, benefitting from 10 walks as the Redbacks pitching failed to hit the strike zone. Infielder Sam Stainsby slides in to score the Brunels first run on Sunday. Bristol Brunels out hit the New Forest Thunder Knights on Sunday but eventually went down 12-5 and 8-7 in their BBF/SWWBL A double header. Despite the Brunels racking up 13 hits across both games compared to three by the Thunder Knights, the Bristol team’s pitchers gave up 22 walks which allowed the New Forest offense to get on base and score consistently in both games.
