Daniel Kelly has all but burst onto the scene for Celtic over the past few weeks. After only signing his first contract in 2022, what he has done in the last two years as a teenager must provoke excitement in all Celtic fans. After leading Celtics B team to their Glasgow cup win in the 2022/23 season and starting regularly in the lowland league and the UEFA youth league at 17 it was hard to deny his talent. Brendan liked what he saw as he decided to include Kelly in his pre-season side that went to Japan and Portugal. He went on to impress further early this season scoring twice in the UEFA yo ..read more

Celtic 2-1 Rangers: Sadiku earns her first major scalp, as the Ghirls blow the title race wide open

Celtic Women have injected life into this season’s title race by handing Rangers their first loss of the season. A first half double from the Ghirls’ marquee January signing Natasha Flint saw off the league leaders despite Jane Ross’ second half strike.   Flint opened the scoring after just five minutes. Her first attempt was saved by Jenna Fife, but she capitalised on the rebound first, to finish comfortably from close range. Within five minutes of the first half ending, Flint had her second. Lucy Ashworth-Clifford’s cross caused problems for the Rangers defence and Tessel Middag’s ..read more

Celtic 3 St. Johnstone 1 That’s more like it

Cameron Carter-Vickers our knight in shining armour. After a not so convincing win over Livingston last week, Celtic have bounced back with a very convincing win over St Johnstone. The team looked so much more fluid going forward and the difference between having CCV and not having him is night and day, he all but controlled the back line and kept a sense of calmness at the back. In the first half hour or so of the game Celtic were all over St. Johnstone but could not finish their dinner. Although in the first half alone we had 3 goals chopped off for offside, which with hindsight, were off. A ..read more

Celtic 4 Livingston 2, should alarm bells be ringing

Celtic are through to the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, thanks to a late winner by Daizen Maeda then a very late dagger by Kyogo Furuhashi. But fans at the game and on social media were very concerned at the team’s performance and let me tell you it was rightfully so. Celtic started off strong looking to go at Livingston early and had a few chances go begging, that was until Daizen Maeda made it 1-0 in the seventh minute after a brilliantly weighted ball over the top by Nicolas Kuhn had defenders sent to the shops. From there it was an easy finish for the Japanese winger. But not even five m ..read more

Sleepwalking Into the Storm

Firstly I want to apologise for the pessimism of this article.  I hope my feelings as to where the season is heading are wrong and trust me, I will be first on here to say “my bad” if we manage to turn the campaign around.   But right now Celtic 2023/24 looks like one slow-motion car crash.  The mood surrounding the club feels like Dresden after the bombing.  An air of despondency started the week before the final league game of last season when we realised Ange was away.  And it has got progressively worse since.  And it’s concerning the manager’s position that w ..read more

Staring into the abyss

By Thomas Hanlon My wife will often ask why do I watch Celtic when to her, I am clearly not enjoying it. I have tried to explain that attending a match is a far different experience than watching it, not only because when I shout man on from row z of the upper tier of the Jock Stein Stand, someone might hear me. I do think however her questioning does hint at a rather deeper malaise in my own relationship with Celtic. Is my football team the “most important, non important thing in my life” to paraphrase a quote by the comedian Frank Skinner or have Celtic increasingly became a source of frustr ..read more

Whilst the turn of the century saw tier 1 level players secure eye watering contracts, those larger clubs from outside the big 5 leagues could still match the salaries for Tier 2 players.  But as the funds from ever increasing TV deals swelled the coffers of the elite clubs, their dominant position in European competition become solidified. Tier 2 & 3 level players were now swelling the squads of the elites at salaries beyond the reaches of the big lesser clubs. Losing their best players to clubs with bigger pockets was nothing new for clubs like Celtic, but now every decent player th ..read more

It is never wise to build your hopes up going into a transfer window if you’re a Celtic fan.  Years of failing to get deals over the line and deciding that we go as is, condition you for fearing the worst.  None the less with Brendan Rodgers demanding quality be brought during the final two months of last year and even the captain Callum MacGregor getting in on the act in December, we assumed surely they had some players lined up this January.  However it’s an old cliché but none the less true – it’s the hope that kills you. To have so much money sitting in the bank and to have ..read more

Celtic 5-0 Buckie Thistle: Three things we learned as Celtic advance to the Last 16 of the Scottish Cup
The Celtic Underground

Celtic have beaten fifth division side Buckie Thistle comfortably, as would have been expected of the Scottish Cup holders. In Celtic’s first game back since the winter break many would have expected to see Brendan Rodgers shuffle the pack, considering the opposition but he went for a very strong starting lineup. Paulo Bernardo kept up his good run of form as he opened the scoring with a tidy chipped finish. Young Norwegian Odin Thiago Holm got the second, and his first in the Hoops after he was given the nod at the base of the midfield, with Callum McGregor given an extended rest, confirmed b ..read more

Celtic 2-3 Rangers: Semi-final heartbreak for the Ghirls
The Celtic Underground

In a game of penalties, Rangers came out on top to advance to the Sky Sports Cup Final. Despite it being a cold night in Airdrie, there was a great turn out from both sets of fans at the Excelsior to witness two fierce rivals going toe-to-toe in which was a very entertaining game by the end of it. It was a slow and sluggish opening 45 minutes, especially from Celtic. The away side had most of the play and the chances in the opening half, with Rachel Rowe probably having the Gers best chance as she found herself unmarked in the box before firing just wide of the far post. The Welsh internationa ..read more
